High on Kids wants to empower and activate neighborhoods, educate citizens<br />

about the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse, change laws and develop<br />

drug-free teen activities through the active involvement of the entire<br />

Lower Dauphin community.<br />

LOWER DAUPHIN COMMUNITIES THAT CARE<br />

Lower Dauphin Communities that Care (LDCTC) is a community-based<br />

non-profit organization established in 2001 to promote healthy behaviors<br />

in youth within the Lower Dauphin School District. Our programs are<br />

designed to increase protective factors and reduce adolescent problem<br />

behaviors like substance abuse and school drop out. Current programs<br />

include:<br />

• Preschool Literacy Outreach, a program providing children’s books<br />

to one, two, three and four year olds on their birthdays.<br />

• Books on Board, a bookmobile that travels to locations within the<br />

Lower Dauphin School District engaging preschoolers and their families<br />

in literacy activities. <strong>East</strong> <strong>Hanover</strong> bookmobile stops are Tuesdays:<br />

9:30-10:15 Faith United Church of Christ; 10:30-11:15<br />

Meadow Creek Development (Timber Ridge Rd/Crapapple Ct);<br />

11:30-12:15 <strong>East</strong> <strong>Hanover</strong> <strong>Township</strong> Municipal Building<br />

• Big Brothers/Big Sisters, a school-based mentoring program at the<br />

middle school, high school and four elementary schools including<br />

<strong>East</strong> <strong>Hanover</strong>.<br />

• Guiding Good Choices, a family bonding and drug prevention program<br />

for parents of children in grades 4-8.<br />

year. Youth between the ages of 16 and 18 are invited to join the Junior<br />

Fire Fighter Program. The fire company meetings are held on the second<br />

Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the fire house. The fire company<br />

auxiliary holds a meeting the first Tuesday of each month.<br />
