THE MANADA CONSERVANCY
The Manada Conservancy is a land trust, created in 1995 by residents of
East Hanover Township and neighboring municipalities who are concerned
about unplanned loss of land in our region to development. It is a
private charitable organization. By working with individuals, private
groups, and local, county and state agencies, the Conservancy seeks
ways to protect a wildlife habitat and preserve open space. It also seeks
ways to help farmers keep their land in agricultural use while maintaining
its financial value.
Land trusts are becoming a widely used method for private and voluntary
preservation of farmland and natural resources, with over forty such
organizations in Pennsylvania alone. The Manada Conservancy is modeled
after other larger or more distant conservancies but its focal point
will be our own communities and the nearby areas with which we are
most familiar.
