The Senior Center also operates a Meals on Wheels program throughout the Township. This program is intended for those who cannot get to the Center for their meals. For more information on this program or to volunteer to be a driver, please call Janet Espenshade at 469-1099. Activities are planned for each day but are subject to change. Plan a day or two or three a week and join us for fun and food! Restrooms are adjacent. The Picnic Shelter, which is located behind the tennis courts, has eight Octagon tables (2 are handicap accessible, 1 is a serving table) and one charcoal grill. There is no electric at the Picnic Shelter and you must use the restrooms adjacent to the Pavilion. The Township Park has activities for every member of the family. Enjoy the fitness/walking trail, basketball court, tennis courts, multipurpose court (used for rollerblading and such) and playground equipment. FOR SALE AT THE MUNICIPAL BUILDING ONE-ROOM SCHOOLHOUSE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION The One-Room Schoolhouse Alumni Association of East Hanover Township, Dauphin County, meets annually on the second Sunday in June. This year the reunion meeting will be on June 12, 2011 at the Municipal Building at 2:00 p.m; however, doors are open at 1:00 p.m. for socializing and refreshments. Donations of school pictures, old lunch kettles, old school books (history, geography, reading and arithmetic), old slates and anything pertaining to a one-room schoolhouse and fixtures for the interior of the building are still being accepted. Announcements POST OFFICE HOURS Monday-Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon; Sunday: Closed Lobby Hours: Monday-Friday: 6:15 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday: 6:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Phone: 469-0312 BUILDING SCHEDULING INFORMATION The East Hanover Township Building is available for rent to Township residents for social events. Rental fees for residents are between $60.00and $175.00, depending on the event and the number of persons attending the event. A $100.00 security deposit is required in the event of damage or missing items. Seating capacity is 175 persons. Non-resident rates range between $120.00 and $350.00 with a $200 security deposit. No alcohol is allowed. Reservations are required and can be made by calling the Township Office at 469-7655. It is advisable to reserve the building early since it is heavily used. However, arrangements for funeral services, since they are generally during the day, can be made on short notice. PARK PAVILION AND PICNIC SHELTER SCHEDULING INFORMATION The East Hanover Township Park Pavilion and Picnic Shelter are available to rent. Rental fees for the Pavilion are twenty-five dollars ($25.00) for residents and fifty dollars ($50.00) for non-residents. Rental fees for the picnic Shelter are ten dollars ($10.00) for residents and twenty dollars ($20.00) for non-residents. A twenty-five dollar ($25.00) security deposit is required on all rentals. Rental fees are refundable only in the event of inclement weather, when the Township Building is reserved as a back-up. Reservations must be made by calling the office at 469-7655. 22 HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF EAST HANOVER TOWNSHIP, DAUPHIN COUNTY The East Hanover Township Historical Society’s purpose is to develop a community awareness of our heritage through preservation and education. Interest in local history through meetings, publications and public programs is encouraged. The Society functions as a repository for items of historical significance. Meetings are generally held the second Monday of each month beginning at 7:00 pm in the EHT Municipal Building. Anyone interested in local history is invited to attend. It is a private charitable organization. By working with individuals, private groups, and local, county and state agencies, the Conservancy seeks ways to protect a wildlife habitat and preserve open space. It also seeks ways to help farmers keep their land in agricultural use while maintaining its financial value. Land trusts are becoming a widely used method for private and voluntary preservation of farmland and natural resources, with over forty such organizations in Pennsylvania alone. The Manada Conservancy is modeled after other larger or more distant conservancies but its focal point will be our own communities and the nearby areas with which we are most familiar. 11
