Community Organizations AUTUMN LEAVES The Autumn Leaves is a group of members who gather together the fourth Thursday of most months at the East Hanover Township Municipal Building. Anyone age 50 or older is welcome to become a member. You do not have to be a resident of the Township to join. Cost of membership is $1.00. Transportation can be provided for East Hanover Township residents by using the Transport Service. The Autumn Leaves Organization is served a catered meal at noon on meeting days except for August and November when a covered dish luncheon is enjoyed by all who attend. Entertainment follows the meal. The Christmas Party is on December 8, 2011 at the Township Building. Participating in the Autumn Leaves is a wonderful way to reunite with friends, meet new friends, eat a delicious meal and enjoy some entertainment. The group is always looking for new members. Non-residential buildings and multi-family dwellings over four units are excluded from participation. Participants will have two service programs from which to choose. 1. The regular collection service will allow a maximum of four 36 gallon trash bags or cans, one bulk item and unlimited curbside recycling per week. The fee will be $50.78 per quarter which amounts to an annual fee of $203.12. Billing will be done on a quarterly basis (January, April, July, October). Additional containers of MSW will require Penn Waste bags. Bags are available at the Municipal Building at the cost of $3.50 per bag. 2. The optional per container service allows customers who generate a small amount of MSW to purchase bags from the waste hauler. Bags for this service are $3.50 each and are available at the Municipal Building. 3. Extra Bulk Item is $25.00/bulk item. 4. Christmas trees can be put out for trash as 1 bag of the 4 bag limit. Change of Service: May be done at the end of a quarterly billing cycle. Suspended Services: In order to have service suspended, a 2 week notification period is necessary. Service may be suspended for not less than 30 days. Collection of recyclables is included in both services. No construction debris will be collected Customers will provide their own containers of not more than 32 gallons. Containers must not exceed 50 pounds. All collections will be made between the hours of 5:00 am and 5:00 pm. In the event of a missed service call, collection will be made within 24 hours of notification. CURBSIDE RECYCLING (CR): All containers must be empty, cleaned, and washed of contents. 8 25

MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE (MSW), CURBSIDE RECYCLING (REC) & BULK ITEM COLLECTION (BIC) When did the program begin? The program began on July 2, 2008. It will end on July 1, 2013. Penn Waste, Inc., P.O. Box 3066, York, PA 17402, was awarded the contract. Telephone number is 717-767-4456 or 866-575-8720. Website address is www.pennwaste.com. Please have your items placed curbside prior to 6:00 a.m. on your collection day. A carry-out service is available to residents regarded as disabled under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 whose dwelling unit does not have residing therein another individual capable of transporting MSW and recyclables to the designated location. Trash, recyclables and bulk items will be picked up at the door. Holidays observed: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Collection will be one day late when your collection day falls on or follows these holidays. EXCEPTION: There is NO CHANGE in service prior to or after a holiday that falls on a Saturday or Sunday If collection is missed, please call Penn Waste as soon as possible. Pickup schedule Tuesday Allentown Boulevard and Residences South of Meadow Lane Thursday North side of Allentown Boulevard to North Meadow, Jonestown Road to Red Mill Road, north of Jonestown Road Friday Jonestown Road from Red Hill Road to county line; Allen town Boulevard from Meadow Road to county line; Laudermilch Road from South Meadow Road to Jonestown Road MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE (MSW): Municipal Solid Waste (MSW), for purposes of this contract, shall include garbage (food waste), refuse (the useless or worthless part of something), grass clippings and leaf waste (any combination of leaves, brush, tree and shrub trimmings and vegetative materials from gardens). 24 AUTUMN LEAVES TRANSPORT SERVICE The Autumn Leaves Transport Service is an outstanding service provided for residents of the Township who are at least age 60 or who are disabled. The 11 passenger van is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to provide transportation to medical appointments, grocery stores, banks, meetings, etc. The van is available after hours for emergency situations. Calls for service should be made at least 48 hours in advance except in the event of an emergency. One-day recreational trips to Roots Market, etc. are also planned and generally are scheduled for Tuesdays. The administrative office for the service is located in the East Hanover Township Municipal Building. The office is staffed by volunteers on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Appointments for services need to be made during these times. Donations are accepted for all trips and services. East Hanover Township provides the office area, the telephone and the fuel for this service. The Dauphin County Area Agency on Aging provides the insurance for the services of the van. The van is owned by the Dauphin County Area on Aging and is housed in a Township garage. If you need additional information, please call the Autumn Leaves office at 469-7514. EAST HANOVER TOWNSHIP SENIOR CENTER The Shellsville Senior Center is located in the East Hanover Township Municipal Building. Anyone who is at least age 60 is eligible to participate in this Center. Residency in the Township is not required but you must be a resident of Dauphin County. The Center is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Transportation can be provided for Township residents by the Autumn Leaves Transport Service. Meals, prepared and delivered by the Dauphin County Area Agency on Aging are served at 11:30 a.m. In order that enough meals are delivered, you must sign up or call in for a meal reservation at least 48 hours before the meal is needed. A donation is accepted for the cost of the meal. Calls are taken on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon at 469-7514. 9
