DAUPHIN COUNTY HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE<br />

CURBSIDE COLLECTION PROGRAM<br />

The Dauphin County Department of Solid Waste Management & Recycling,<br />

with funding help from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental<br />

Protection, provides a free, once-a-year hazardous waste collection<br />

of each Dauphin County household. Under this program, Dauphin<br />

County residents can properly dispose of the following items: antifreeze,<br />

batteries, brake fluid, chemical strippers, chlorine bleach, contact<br />

cement, drain cleaners, fire extinguishers, flea collars and sprays, herbicides,<br />

insect repellant, insecticides, kerosene, lawn chemicals, lighter<br />

fluid, lye, mothballs, nail polish remover, old propane tanks, oven cleaners,<br />

paints, pesticides, pool chemicals, solvents, spot removers, stains<br />

and finishes, toilet cleaners and used motor oil. Curbside, Inc. contracts<br />

with Dauphin County to provide a curbside collection service for these<br />

materials. All collections are by appointment only. Call 1-800-449-<br />

7587 for scheduling information and other details.<br />

DAUPHIN COUNTY RECYCLING DROP-OFF DEPOTS<br />

The Recycling Drop-Off Depots, which are being located throughout the<br />

county, are designed to serve residents who do not have curbside recycling<br />

available. These Depots also collect additional materials that<br />

may not be collected in all mandated curbside programs. The Dauphin<br />

County Board of Commissioners encourages residents to utilize the<br />

depots as often as necessary. There is no limit on how much material<br />

you can recycle or how often you can recycle.<br />

Recycle your corrugated cardboard, advertising inserts, junk mail, magazines<br />

and telephone books at one of the seven locations. If you are not<br />

sure whether the item you have is recyclable, please contact the Dauphin<br />

County Recycling Hotline at 780-6351, Monday through Friday from<br />

7:30 am to 4:00 pm. The nearest depot to <strong>East</strong> <strong>Hanover</strong> <strong>Township</strong> is<br />

Conewago <strong>Township</strong> Municipal Building, 3179 Old Hershey Road,<br />

Elizabethtown.<br />

Corrugated cardboard must be flattened and stacked together. Not permitted<br />

are freezer cartons, wax-coated boxes or boxes containing food<br />

scraps. Advertising inserts, junk mail, magazines and telephone books<br />

must be loose or tied, not placed in paper or plastic bags.<br />

terms. Meetings are held the fourth Tuesday of most months (except<br />

when changed due to holidays, etc.) beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Municipal<br />

Building. All meetings are open to the public.<br />

ENVIRONMENTAL ADVISORY COUNCIL (EAC)<br />

The EAC acts in an advisory capacity to the <strong>Township</strong> Officials and<br />

agencies on matters relating to the protection, conservation, management<br />

and use of natural resources located within the <strong>Township</strong>. In addition, it<br />

conducts environmental programs and activities. The EAC is currently<br />

on an inactive status due to lack of volunteers to be appointed to the<br />

Council.<br />

BOARD OF AUDITORS<br />

The Board of Auditors is comprised of three elected <strong>Township</strong> residents.<br />

Each term of office is six years.<br />

The primary function of the auditors is to establish the compensation of<br />

any supervisor who is employed by the <strong>Township</strong>.<br />

TAX COLLECTOR<br />

Loria Smith was re-elected as Tax Collector in November 2009. The<br />

Tax Office is located at 376 North Crawford Road,, Grantville, PA<br />

17028. There is a mail slot in the door for the convenience of the tax<br />

payers. Telephone and fax number is (717) 469-1048. The Tax Office<br />

will normally be open during the following times:<br />
