August 9: Three days after the destruction <strong>of</strong> Hiroshima, Maj. Charles W.<br />

Sweeney and his crew, flying a B–29 called Bock’s Car, bombed Nagasaki<br />

in the second and last atomic bomb attack, which largely destroyed the<br />

city and killed at least 35,000 people.<br />

Boeing B–29 Superfortresses dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki,<br />

Japan.<br />
