December 22: Four Curtiss JN–4 “Jenny” aircraft, with pilots under the command<br />

<strong>of</strong> Maj. Albert D. Smith, completed the Army’s first transcontinental<br />

flight, landing at Jacksonville, Florida, after departing San<br />

Diego on December 4.<br />

Many <strong>Air</strong> Service pilots first learned to fly in the Curtiss JN–4 “Jenny.”<br />
