performed as often as twice daily, depending on the frequency of usage and the
Position Switches
Switch Replacement
Position switch adjustments are initially made during manufacture of the
instrument and are intended to be permanent under normal usage. These position
switch adjustments may, however, change in time as a funtion of normal
instrument usage. In this case, reajustment may be performed by loosening the
switch mounting hardware and repositioning the switch relative to is actuator or
by simply rebending the switch's integrated actuator. Readjustment should yield
very sensitive settings where the switches trip even under very slight detector
panel or actuator rod movement.
Because of cycle life limitations and for installations with relatively high
frequencies of user measurement cycles, the mechanical body position switches
used in PCM-2 can experience failure and hence may require periodic
replacement. In the event that these switches do experience failure, the following
removal and replacement procedures apply:
Foot Position Switches
Removal of either the right or the left foot switches is simply a matter of
first locating the switches behind their respective right ankle detector and
left foot trim panels and then removing their mounting screws and electrical
faston connectors, noting the wire positions on the switches and retaining
the nutplates. Replace either of these switches by reconnecting the switch
wires up to the new switch and remounting the switch as before to the
switch mounting bracket located behind the subject detector or trim panel.
The switch mounting brackets feature slotted mounting screwholes to
provide for switch adjustments. After the switch is loosesly remounted to
the bracket with the mounting screws and nutplate, move the switch in
towards its red actuator rod until the switch makes contact with an audible
"click", then tighen the switch mounting screws. Repeat this adjustment
procedure until the switch contact is released upon only a sight movement of
the actuator rod.
Weight Switch
The weight switch is located benieth the slotted grille foot platform in the
base of the PCM-2 unit. Its function is to interrupt background mesurement
updating by sensing when a user has stepped up onto the unit. Access to
the switch can be gained by removing the screw-mounted access panel on
the rear base trim on newer PCM-2 units. On older units which do not
have this switch access panel, access can only be gained by tipping the unit
back on an incline dolly to expose the switch from the underside of the unit.
Next, remove the swich by loosening its mounting screws. Retain the
