Lika Electronic introduces a complete series of ATEX category 3 incremental encoders: they
are intended for use in potentially explosive zones 2/22 and offer the broadest range of
connection options.
Lika Electronic widens the ATEX product range and introduces
the new series of IX58 - CX58 category 3 incremental
encoders. Category 3 comprises the products designed
to meet the requirements of the new 2014/34/EU
European Directive (also referred to as “new ATEX Directive”)
and suitable for a safe use and a normal level of protection
in areas in which explosive atmospheres caused by mixture
of gases and vapours (zone 2) or dust (zone 22) are unlikely
to occur and if they do occur do so for a short period of
time. Furthermore they comply with the constructional safety
requirements of the temperature class T5 (T100°C).
IX58 – CX58 ATEX encoders complement the XC77 series
of ATEX incremental encoders that are category 2 compliant
and intended for use in Zones 1, 2, 21, 22 and in the
temperature class T6
(T85°C).
IX58 - CX58 are
especially distinguished
by the wide
choice of mechanical
and electrical connection
options, so
they can easily suit a
large number of normal
industrial uses.
From a mechanical
point of view they
feature a compact
58 mm diameter industrial
enclosure with IP65 protection rate; furthermore
they are designed in a complete range of mechanical models:
you can choose either from the Ø 6, 8, 9.52, 10 and 12
mm (0.24”, 0.31”, 3/8”, 0.39”, 0.47”) solid shaft versions with
servo or clamp flange mounting; or from the Ø 14 and 15
mm (0.55”, 0.59”) blind hollow shaft versions.
IX58 - CX58 offer increased electrical protection and safety
systems according to ATEX yet they keep maximum versatility
and adaptability. They are available in both digital and
analogue interfaces: single-channel or quadrature digital
signals are provided via NPN, PNP, Push-Pull, Line Driver
and Universal output circuits with resolutions up to
10000 PPR; the analogue interface is the 1Vpp type with
resolutions from 500 to 2500 PPR. The permissible counting
frequency can be up to 300 kHz.
The ATEX encoders have axial and radial cable output with
length on request. An overcurrent protection is installed
in all interfaces and complemented by the reverse polarity
protection and the
short-circuit protection
at output in
specific interfaces.
IX58 - CX58 encoders
guarantee an increased
safety level in all
industrial environments
where an occasional
risk of a gas
and dust explosive
mixture may occur.

Safety is becoming increasingly important
in the design and manufacturing of machines
and plants. It is intended to safeguard
the health of workers on one hand; and to
improve productivity, efficiency and reliability
on the other hand. So more and more
often functional safety systems are implemented:
they use certified subsystems
in order to fulfill specific and unavoidable
safety requirements.
IFS-10 safety controller from Lika
Electronic is conceived to exactly meet
this need: it is designed for the integration
of incremental encoders (and even “non
safe” encoders) into systems that require
the SIL3 Safety Integrity Level and the PLe
Performance Level. Thus it is ideal to retrofit
existing industrial plants.
SIL and PL are two different methods that
allow for evaluation of a safety function:
they are defined by the EN 62061 (SIL) and
ISO 13849-1 (PL) standards and achieve
similar results (so they are often matched
together). SIL3 and PLe are the higher
levels of safety for machinery.
IFS-10 is SIL3/PLe certified and allows to
create a redundant safety subsystem by
means of sin/cos 1Vpp, HTL/Push-Pull
and TTL/RS422 incremental encoders,
but also proximity sensors, limit switches
and command devices. It monitors and
controls speed, standstill and direction of
rotation in single axis applications and implements
the following safety functions in
compliance with the EN 61800-5-2 standard:
SLS, SSM, SS1, SS2, SOS, SDI.
IFS-10 connects at input two incremental
encoders or a single redundant
encoder (for instance the magnetic SGSD)
with either sin/cos or Push-Pull or RS422
interface, but also switches and sensors;
they can be freely paired to achieve redundancy.
The motion controller provides
the following safety outputs, programmable
according to needs: 1 sin/cos splitter
output, 1 RS422 splitter output, 1 force
guided redundant relay output (NO), 4 HTL
inverse redundant control outputs and 1
4-20mA analog output.
The set up of all functions and the parametrization
of the input and output features
is fast and intuitive by using either the PC
software tool via USB supplied for free or
the optional keyboard: the additional module
is fitted with an OLED display and is
even removable and allows for user-friendly
configuration and comprehensive diagnostic
information.
Two LEDs for status monitoring and the
clip for DIN rail mounting are a further advantage.
The enclosure is sound and compact
(50 mm W x 100 H x 160 D).
Because of its great versatility and the broad
compatibility IFS-10 is perfect both
for installation in modern certified automation
systems and for the retrofit of
outdated plants and in applications such
as the automation of stage machinery, swivelling
platforms, cranes, hoists, steel mills,
working machines, conveying systems,
wind turbines.
