SMP encoder for linear guideways<br />

SMP is the magnetic encoder designed for feedback on linear guideways, carriages, slides,<br />

positioning tables and all applications that need the tape to be mounted laterally.<br />

The range of linear magnetic encoders from <strong>Lika</strong> <strong>Electronic</strong> is<br />

enriched with the new SMP model today.<br />

This encoder is differentiated from others in the family by<br />

the lateral mounting of the tape.<br />

This makes it unique and especially suitable for installation<br />

in linear guideways, carriages, slides, positioning<br />

tables and all applications that need the tape to be mounted<br />

laterally and the height of the measuring system to be reduced<br />

as much as possible.<br />

The tape is narrowed to a height of only 10 mm (0.39”) and<br />

is insensitive to dust, oil, grease, water and most common<br />

chemical agents.<br />

Also the dimensions of the sensing head have been minimized;<br />

the enclosure is very compact and slim yet it preserves<br />

its durability with IP67 protection rate. Thus the measuring<br />

system can reliably operate in aggressive industrial environments.<br />

Furthermore for ease of assembly this encoder ensures<br />

very wide mounting tolerances up to 2 mm (0.08”).<br />

SMP allows for resolutions up to 12.5 µm over up to 100 m<br />

(328 ft) travels.<br />

It generates quadrature signals with inverted and Index signals<br />

via Push-Pull (HTL) +10÷30Vdc and Line Driver (TTL)<br />

+5Vdc ±5% output circuits.<br />

SMP encompasses high-flex cables especially suited for use<br />

in cable drag chains, tested for more than one million cycles.<br />

The magnetic tape can be supplied with optional protection<br />

cover strip and tape terminals.<br />

It encompasses a double<br />

rubber wheel with<br />

package. Typically the<br />

wheel is mounted under<br />

the moving material<br />

(such as a conveyor belt,<br />

a reel or a roller).<br />

The support provides a<br />

slotted mounting plate<br />

and a pivoting arm fitted<br />

with springs. In this<br />

way it is easy to adjust<br />

the wheel very close to<br />

the belt and load the<br />

springs to always exert<br />

the better pressure.<br />

In addition the arm is able to accommodate the possible<br />

upward downward movements of the belt without<br />

losing constant contact. Also the rubber wheel is<br />

designed to eliminate the sliding risks. Available in<br />

several diameters, the<br />

wheel can be locked in a<br />

fixed position or let free<br />

to move.<br />

The integral encoder<br />

is an incremental type<br />

and provides AB0 signals<br />

with complementary<br />

signals via Push-Pull<br />

(HTL) +10÷30Vdc, Line<br />

Driver (TTL) +5Vdc ±5%<br />

and HTL/TTL compatible<br />

+5÷30Vdc universal<br />

output circuits (digital<br />

version); or sinusoidal<br />

signals via 1Vpp output<br />

circuit.<br />

Resolutions up to 5000<br />

PPR are at customer’s<br />

choice (0.06 mm /<br />

0.0024”).<br />

M12 connector and<br />

cable options are both<br />

offered.
