T is presentation has only examined two herbicide-disease
system where herbicide choice seemed to influence disease
suscep ibility or turf recovery from disease. Turfgrass managers
are fa ed with a daunting task of balancing pesticide inputs,
includ ng herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, etc. and
develo ing integrated systems of management for the particular
pests n question. Managers can best do this by carefully
studyi g growth patterns of the turfgrasses under culture, and
determ ning when the turf is likely to be under stress from
enviro mental and/or pest pressures. At these critical times,
the ch ice of a pesticide or perhaps the choice of no pesticide
applic tion may be critical to obtaining the best chance of
sustai ing turf quality but limiting detrimental effects on the
turf 0 the environment. No doubt, as managers are provided with
more t ols in the way of pesticides and growth regulators, these
decisi ns will be more difficult. The more we can learn about
potent'al interactions, the better we will be prepared.
