REGULATION<br />

CONNECTICUT: Control of aerial application of pesticides & fertilizers<br />

by Dept. of Aeronautics, Board·of Fisheries & Game, Dept.<br />

Health, & Conn. Ag. Exp. sta. Control of Chemical use in or adjacent<br />

to public water. supplies by Dept. of Health. Control of<br />

Chemical use in other waters of state by State Board of Fisheries<br />

& Game. Selective work - avoidance of brownout. Recommended<br />

policy of vegetation control by Public Utilities by State Board<br />

of Fisheries & Game, etc. permit on state R.O.W.<br />

MAINE: <strong>Weed</strong> and Brush Control Association (Highway Dept., most<br />

of Utili ty companies, and other inte.rested parties) recommends<br />

"Roadside Spraying Code" as a guide, which includes limitation of<br />

6' height of brush to be sprayed.<br />

NEWYORK: Leaving of dead wood (fire hazard) in forests not permitted<br />

by Dept. of Conservation. Control of chemicals in waters<br />

of state which might be injurious to fish - Dept. of conse i-va Hcn ,<br />

Control of chemicals for aquatics by permit from Health Commissioner.<br />

Maximum 2' height of brush sprayed. Public Utility work<br />

along highways by permit. No 2,4-D or 2,4,5 T use permitted in<br />

vicinity of vineyards - D.P.W.<br />

PENNSYLVANIA:Maximum 8' height of ,brush sprayed. Public Utility<br />

work along highways by permit.<br />

HHODEISLAND: Brush spray limited to stubs of brush cut in current<br />

year. No spraying when windy or near susceptible plants.<br />

Ammonium Sulfamate the only brush control chemical approved for<br />

public water supply lands.<br />

VERMONT: Used under the personal direction of the District Engineers<br />

to avoid public criticism.<br />

VIRGINIA: Maximum 3' height of brush sprayed. Foliage spray by<br />

special permission only. Public Utility work on R.O.W. by permit.<br />

WESTVIRGINIA: Use of herbicides for the control of weeds and<br />

brush prohibited on state rights-of-way.<br />

No other specific regulations given for other States in correspondence.
