Tourists may access all water areas except Ngkisaol Sardines Sanctuary, Ngerukuid Islands Wildlife Preserve, Ngederrak Reef and all other marine lakes. Regulations • Beginning on May 1, 2007, Any visitor entering Palau on a tourist visa must have a valid Jellyfish Lake permit or a Rock Island Use Permit to use the area. For a visiting tourist to experience the Jellyfish Lake, they must purchase a Jellyfish Lake Permit at $35.00 and is valid for 10 days. It allows entry to Ongeim’l Tketau, Jellyfish Lake on Mecherechar Island and scuba diving at all areas outside the Jellyfish Lake, snorkeling, kayaking, boat touring and land activities on designated tourist activity areas. • The Rock Islands Use Permit will no longer include the Jellyfish Lake. This permit costs $25.00 and is valid for 10 days. This allows a tourist to snorkel, kayak, boat tour, scuba diving and go on land tour activities on the designated tourist activity areas mentioned above, except Jellyfish Lake. • The Jellyfish Lake Permit includes all areas covered by the Rock Island Use Permit, plus Jellyfish Lake. Permits are valid for ten days from the date of purchase and are not transferable. No permit is necessary for children under the age of six. Palauans and resident aliens may continue to enjoy the Rock Islands and Jellyfish Lake just as they do now. • Non-Palauan citizens and visitors must have a valid fishing license to take part in any fishing activities. License fee is $20 per month, or $200 per year. It is illegal for non-Palauan citizens to fish from land areas on Koror Island (includes all fringing reefs joined to land areas). • The appropriate permit must be in the possession of the tourist at all times while in the Rock Islands and must be presented upon demand to Koror State law enforcement personnel. Koror State will post a person at or near Jellyfish Lake to inspect the Jellyfish Lake permit and to ensure compliance with this law. The boat or tour operator may hold the permits while the tourists are visiting Jellyfish Lake. 135
