Course Outline: Community First Aid and Safety<br />

Course Description: The main purpose of this course is to help lay responders<br />

recognize an emergency and feel more confident in their abilities to act aptly in<br />

the event of any emergency situation. Additionally, this course is designed to<br />

promote a safe and healthy lifestyle. Upon the completion of this course through<br />

a series of demonstrations and tests, one will be able to provide basic care that is<br />

necessary for injuries or sudden illnesses in infants, children, and adults.<br />

This course certifies individuals for CPR and First Aid and Safety. It is a 10 to<br />

12 hours course.<br />

This course is divided into three components.<br />

Component I: Adult CPR<br />

Component II: Infant and Child CPR<br />

Component III: First Aid Basics<br />

Component I: Adult CPR<br />

Participants in this course will be able to respond to an emergency. They will<br />

also be able to recognize an emergency, devise an emergency plan, provide<br />

appropriate information, and even demonstrate needed medical skills regarding<br />

conscious or unconscious victims.<br />

1. Responding to an Emergency/Emergency Plan<br />

a. Deciding to act/taking action<br />

b. Obtaining consent<br />

2. Preventing Disease Transmission<br />

3. Moving an Adult<br />

4. Caring for Shock<br />

5. Life-Threatening Emergencies: Checking an unconscious adult/child/infant<br />
