Programme framework and MCCCDRR Plan
Nicole Brown, Team member with communication, training and awareness expertise and experience in
facilitating Climate Change and Disaster Management processes at community level; responsible for the
review of community CC and DRR materials; lead author of Module and Handbooks; facilitator of Jamaica
community workshop and co-facilitator of Training of Trainers workshop.
Their respective roles in relation to individual activities are outlined in more detail in the Work plan attached at
Appendix 3.
4.3 Areas in which CANARI could contribute to the long-term implementation of the MCCCDRR
Plan
The main areas in which CANARI could contribute to the implementation of the MCCCDRR Plan after the
completion of the sub-project are:
a) Design of complementary Units to complete the Module and extend the community-based workshop
beyond two days (e.g. to include a field trip or a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation Unit);
b) Facilitation of the Module at the community level;
c) Facilitation of further Training of Trainers workshops based on the Module;
d) Design and piloting of additional workshops for trainers, notably in the areas of stakeholder
identification and analysis; participatory planning; participatory monitoring and evaluation (with a
particular focus on outcome mapping); and conflict management (with a particular focus on conflicts
over the use of natural resources);
e) Design and piloting of capacity building workshops for community-based organisations, for example in
the areas of strategic visioning and planning; effective governance; financial management; proposal
writing; project management; and monitoring and evaluation.
f) Mentoring of the certified trainers;
g) Facilitation of a regional Action Learning Group focusing on the linkages between disaster management
and climate change adaptation;
h) Written or audiovisual documentation of case studies, including the use of participatory video.
5. Expected results
5.1 Outputs
The following outputs will be delivered under this sub-project:
a) Inception report.
b) Model MCCCDRR Programme framework, including list of certified trainers (i.e. those that have taken
part in the Training of Trainers’ workshop.
c) Three of the key components of a MCCCCDRR Programme, namely
i. a Climate Change Adaptation Module for a two-day workshop for members of communities
vulnerable to climate change-related disasters;
ii. a Participant’s Handbook for those attending such workshops;
iii. a Trainer’s Handbook for the persons facilitating such workshops.
d) Two two-day workshops based on the Module and Handbooks, including documentation of outcomes;
