THE EXTENDED PROJECT<br />

<strong>EPQ</strong><br />


<strong>The</strong> Extended Project qualification<br />

is a Level 3 stand-alone<br />

qualification<br />

(equivalent to an AS)


Who can do an <strong>EPQ</strong>?<br />

• Any of you can choose to do an <strong>EPQ</strong> – it will<br />

help your University application and future<br />

employment opportunities<br />

• Year 12’s – if you are only doing 3 AS’s (or less)<br />

you HAVE to do an <strong>EPQ</strong><br />

• Year 13/14’s – if you are only doing 2 A level<br />

courses (or less) you HAVE to do an <strong>EPQ</strong>

When do I do my <strong>EPQ</strong>?<br />

TAUGHT SESSIONS<br />

• Year 12s and some Year 13s - Wednesday<br />

afternoons L5/6 – when you will be<br />

supervised by LSe or DC<br />

• Year 13s (most)– Friday mornings when you<br />

will be supervised by JB<br />

• BUT the majority of work needs to be done in<br />

your own time e.g. at home.


Choosing Project Title<br />

• It is very important that you choose a<br />

suitable project and your project<br />

supervisors will help you with this.<br />

• If possible it should relate to one or more<br />

of your other subjects<br />

• All projects have to be approved by LSe


YOU CAN CHOOSE TO…<br />

• explore a further aspect of a subject<br />

you are studying


IDEALLY, YOU WILL…<br />

• combine 2 or more of your subjects<br />

• relate your project choice to interests<br />

and concerns<br />

• think about your future progression<br />

when choosing a project


WHEN IDENTIFYING A<br />

PROJECT…<br />

• you will have a high degree<br />

of choice and flexibility<br />

• you will have the advice and<br />

support of a supervisor<br />

(JB,DC or LSe)


YOUR FINISHED PROJECT<br />

COULD BE…<br />

• a written report or extended essay<br />

• a book or guide<br />

• a performance<br />

• a website<br />

• a piece of art or other physical object<br />

• a community or citizenship project<br />

• a piece of music or a film<br />

• a piece of computer software etc.


Assessment<br />

• You will be assessed in 4 main areas:<br />

• 1. Managing<br />

• 2. Using Resources and Research<br />

• 3. Developing and realising<br />

• 4. Reviewing<br />

• If any of these areas are incomplete you will<br />

not be awarded the qualification.


Paperwork<br />

• You have to complete all the paperwork<br />

properly and keep a production LOG as<br />

you go along.<br />

• Your project supervisors will help you<br />

with this.<br />

• Very important you meet deadlines.


Outline of Year<br />

• 1. By end of September – choose project title,<br />

fill in planning sheets and Project proposal<br />

form.<br />

• 2. Oct/Nov Work on Project<br />

• 3. Dec – Mid term review.<br />

• 4. Dec/Jan – Work on project<br />

• 5. Feb – End of Project Review, Plan<br />

<strong>Presentation</strong><br />

• 6. March – <strong>Presentation</strong>s, evaluations.<br />

• 7. April – all projects completed and handed<br />

in for marking.

• develop valuable transferable skills for<br />

the workplace and further or higher<br />

(project management, working with others, research,<br />

Skills<br />

• Your Project supervisors will help you plan<br />

and monitor your project.<br />

• Teach you how to do a bibliography,<br />

reference your work correctly and keep a<br />

Log of all your work.<br />

• You have to attend Lessons EVERY week<br />

regularly.
