SKTR 181W Machine Tools I 4 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisite: MS 113 or instructor permission. Introduces the<br />

manufacturing facility. Utilizes safety, materials, hand tools, precision<br />

instruments, drill presses, lathes, mills, pedestal grinders, and saws.<br />

Studies fundamentals and procedures to provide an understanding of<br />

manufacturing processes. Demonstrates greater knowledge of machine<br />

tool practices and applies that knowledge to educate others. Credit may<br />

be earned in MS 181 or SKTR 181 but not both. (30-60)<br />

SKTR 182 Machine Tools II 4 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisite:MS181 or SKTR 181. Trains in the set up and operation<br />

of various metal working machines and construction of projects from<br />

engineering drawings. Trains in use of a variety of measuring instruments<br />

to take measurements of one thousandth of an inch or closer. Utilizes<br />

safety, milles, lathes, drill presses, saws, grinders, speeds and feeds to<br />

complete duty and task list. Credit may be earnedin only one of: MS<br />

130, SKTR 182, or MS 182. (45-45)<br />

SKTR 183 Machinery’s Handbook 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisite: Prerequisite: SKTR 182 and SKMA 103, or MS 113 or MS<br />

114 and MT 110 or MTH 103. Focuses on learning how to use and<br />

understand the Machinery’s Handbook. Credit may be earned in either<br />

SKTR 183 or MS 120 but not both. (45-0)<br />

SKWL 103 Introduction to Plasma, Carbon<br />

Arc, and Fuel Gas Cutting<br />

3 Sem Hrs<br />

Addresses safety in use of equipment for oxy-fuel gas welding and cutting,<br />

and equipment set-up. Includes oxy-fuel welding of flat strips 1/8” or<br />

less in thickness, and cutting, beveling, and piercing plate and pipe in<br />

laboratory experience. Credit may be earned in one of the following<br />

courses WELD 103, SKWL 101, SKWL 103 but in more than one. (30-15)<br />

SKWL 104 Introduction to Shielded Metal Arc<br />

Welding<br />

3 Sem Hrs<br />

Addresses safety in arc welding, welding terms and definitions, electrode<br />

selection, and welding joints. Includes striking an arc, running beads,<br />

pad welding, and fillet welds in lab. Credit may be earned in either<br />

WELD 104 or SKWL 104 but not in both. (30-15)<br />

SOC 157 Projects in Community Service 1 Sem Hr<br />

Student volunteers will be assigned in groups to assist agency staff in<br />

programs in the tri-city area working with populations of need. Students<br />

will be assigned on the basis of preferred interests. Supportive seminar<br />

will provide structure and supervision for an experience in the field<br />

of human services. Students may elect to take SOC 157, 158 and 159,<br />

however, only a total of three (3) credit hours can be earned in these<br />

courses. (15-30)<br />

Assigns student volunteers to either community agencies providing crosscultural<br />

experiences or to an international work experience. Provides<br />

support seminars dealing with structure and background knowledge<br />

of the particular country involved. (A minimum of 30 hours volunteer<br />

placement is required). Credit may be earned in IHU 161 or SOC 161,<br />

but not both. (15-30)<br />

SOC 162 Projects in Cross-Cultural Learning 2 Sem Hrs<br />

Assigns student volunteers to either community agencies providing crosscultural<br />

experiences or to an international work experience. Provides<br />

support seminars dealing with structure and background knowledge<br />

of the particular country involved. (A minimum of 60 hours volunteer<br />

placement is required.) Credit may be earned in IHU 162 or SOC 162,<br />

but not both. (15-60)<br />

SOC 211HW Principles of Sociology - Honors 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: LEVEL 4 READING and LEVEL 2 WRITING and instruction<br />

of the Honors Office, Introduces the scientific study of society and<br />

social behavior including the basic concepts, theories, and methods of<br />

sociology. Provides opportunities to engage in independent intellectual<br />

inquiry to foster deeper learning. Credit may be earned in SOC 211 or<br />

SOC 211H but not both. (45-0)<br />

Prerequisite: SOC 211 with a “C” or better. Studies prejudice and<br />

discrimination against minority groups, primarily in the United States,<br />

using the sociological approach. Emphasizes the analysis of both causes<br />

Surveys Black life using an inter-disciplinary approach. Studies Black<br />

culture, power and politics, Black family, business and economic<br />

development, and Black psychology. Presents a historical analysis as<br />
