MTH 115W Mathematics for Elementary<br />
Teachers I<br />
3 Sem Hrs<br />
Prerequisite: MTH 097 with a grade of “C” or better or an acceptable<br />
score on the current college assessment instrument. Includes numeration<br />
systems, sets and their properties, classification of number systems<br />
(whole numbers through real number), operations and their properties,<br />
arithmetical algorithms, and problem solving. Uses a variety of learning<br />
styles, manipulatives, and calculator and computer applications. The<br />
National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Standards are incorporated.<br />
Students may use either MTH 115W or MTH 110, not both, to fulfill<br />
graduation requirements. (45-0)<br />
MTH 116W Mathematics for Elementary<br />
Teachers II<br />
3 Sem Hrs<br />
Prerequisite: MTH 115 or MTH 110 with a grade of “C” or better.<br />
Investigates problem solving, statistical charts and graphs, geometric<br />
figures and properties, and measurement systems including metric.<br />
Reviews fractions, decimals, percents, real numbers, their operations<br />
and properties. Reviews algebra of lines and equations. Includes a<br />
variety of learning styles using manipulatives, calculators and computer<br />
application. The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Standards<br />
are incorporated. (45-0)<br />
MTH 117 Math for Allied Health 2 Sem Hrs<br />
Prerequisite: MATH LEVEL 3. Reviews (very briefly) fractions, decimals,<br />
percentages, and proportions. Includes a study of the metric system and<br />
the household system with applications in converting from one system<br />
to another. Emphasizes applications including those involved in giving<br />
medications and in finding times and various rates for intravenous<br />
feedings. (30-0)<br />
MTH 118W Mathematical Explorations 4 Sem Hrs<br />
Prerequisite: MATH LEVEL 4. Provides a course for students<br />
majoring in fields that do not have a specific mathematics requirement.<br />
Emphasizes practical applications of mathematics, problem solving, and<br />
the communication of mathematics. Includes core topics in Finance,<br />
Probability, Statistics, and Geometry. Integrates measurement in the<br />
geometry topic, and infuses algebra throughout all topics. A minimum<br />
of 4 additional topics will be selected from Economics, Calculus, Graph<br />
Theory, Set Theory, Game Theory, Number Theory, Logic, Voting,<br />
Apportionment, Combinatorics, Linear Programming, or other approved<br />

MTH 119AW Intermediate Algebra Extended Hours 4 Sem Hrs<br />
Prerequisite: MATH LEVEL 4 or MTH 097 with a grade of C or better.<br />
Includes fundamental concepts of algebra and applications, equation<br />
solving, graphs, systems of linear equations, quadratic equations,<br />
algebraic fractions, exponents, radicals, functions, and logarithms.<br />
Same content as MTH 119, but class meets 2 additional contact hours<br />
per week to allow 50% more time to review and learn each concept in<br />
MTH 119. Credit may be earned in MTH 119 or MTH 119A, but not<br />
both. A GRAPHING CALCULATOR IS REQUIRED (90-0)<br />
MTH 119W Intermediate Algebra 4 Sem Hrs<br />
Prerequisite: MATH LEVEL 5. Includes fundamental concepts of algebra<br />
and applications, equation solving, graphs, systems of linear equations,<br />
quadratic equations, algebraic fractions, exponents, radicals, functions,<br />
and logarithms. Credit may be earned in MTH 119 or MTH 119A, but<br />

MTH 120 Finite Mathematics 3 Sem Hrs<br />
Prerequisite: Any MTH 119 with a grade of “C” or better or two years<br />
of high school algebra. Includes topics of mathematical modeling<br />
(polynomial and rational functions; their graphs and applications;<br />
and arithmetic and geometric progressions), systems of equations and<br />
inequalities, linear programming, and an introduction to probability<br />
(binomial distributions and graphing qualitative data). Covers<br />
computer applications of some topics. A GRAPHING CALCULATOR<br />
IS REQUIRED. (Those students planning to take MTH 161 should take<br />

MTH 121 Plane Trigonometry 3 Sem Hrs<br />
Prerequisite: Any MTH 119 with a grade of “C” or better or two years<br />
of high school algebra. Includes trigonometric functions and their<br />
graphs, solution of triangles, identities, trigonometric equations,<br />
inverse trigonometric functions, and complex numbers. A GRAPHING<br />

MTH 122W <strong>College</strong> Algebra 4 Sem Hrs<br />
Prerequisite: MATH LEVEL 6. Reviews the mechanics of basic Algebra<br />
and solidifies understanding by using algebraic techniques, constructing<br />
mathematical models, solving problems and interpreting results.<br />
Includes: algebraic expressions; equations and inequalities; functions,<br />
inverse functions, and graphs; polynomial and rational functions;<br />
radical functions; exponential and logarithmic functions; matrices and<br />
determinants; systems of equations and inequalities; complex numbers;<br />
sequences and series. A GRAPHING CALCULATOR IS REQUIRED.<br />

MTH 151 Pre-Calculus Mathematics 4 Sem Hrs<br />
Prerequisite: Any MTH 119 and MTH 121 with grades of “C” or better,<br />
or three years of high school college-preparatory mathematics including<br />
trigonometry. MTH 121 may be taken concurrently with instructor<br />
approval. Designed for students planning to take calculus. Includes a<br />
study of the elementary functions, equations and inequalities, systems of<br />
equations, review of trigonometry, and analytic geometry. A GRAPHING<br />

MTH 153 Algebra for Calculus 3 Sem Hrs<br />
Prerequisites: Two years of high school algebra and permission of the<br />
instructor. Provides a review of algebra as related to calculus topics<br />
of limits, differentiation, and integration. Please note: This is a special<br />
section of math that may not be used to fufill prerequites required for<br />

Managerial Sciences<br />

Prerequisite: MATH LEVEL 8, or MTH 120 or MTH 121 or MTH 122<br />
or MTH 151 with a “C” or better or three and a half years of high/<br />
school-college preparatory mathematics. Satisfies the mathematics<br />
requirements for students majoring in business or social sciences. Covers<br />
topics including graphing, differentiation, and integration of functions<br />
(algebraic, exponential, and logarithmic), and the use of these techniques<br />
within business and economic models. A GRAPHING CALCULATOR<br />

MTH 161 Analytic Geometry and Calculus I 4 Sem Hrs<br />
Prerequisite: MTH 151 with a grade of “C” or better or four years of<br />
high school college-preparatory mathematics including trigonometry.<br />

applications, integrals, as well as differentiation and integration of<br />

Prerequisite: MTH 161 with a grade of “C” or better. Includes<br />
applications of integrals, integration techniques, limits and indeterminate<br />
forms, improper integrals, infinite series, polar coordinates, parametric<br />
equations, as well as differentiation and integration of trigonometric<br />
and hyperbolic functions. A TI 89 GRAPHING CALCULATOR IS<br />

dispersion, probability, confidence intervals, hypotheses testing, linear<br />
