GLG 230 Introductory Field Methods in<br />

Hydrogeology<br />

2 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisite: Successful completion (grade of “C” or better) in GLG<br />

111, or GLG 130, or BIO 110. Introduces the field techniques used in<br />

environmental site assessment, ground water monitoring, and ground<br />

water testing. Includes soil water sampling, ground water sampling,<br />

water quality testing, and water level recording. Explores topics of<br />

geophysical surveying, water well installation, piezometer installation<br />

and techniques to determine the direction of ground water flow. (15-45)<br />

GLG 262AW Geology of Mackinac Island<br />

Studies the bedrock geology and glacial features of Mackinac Island and<br />

surrounding areas, including Tahquamenon Falls. Weekend field trip<br />

Studies the bedrock geology and geologic setting of Pictured Rocks<br />

National Lakeshore, including surrounding rocks and water falls.<br />

Studies the geologic and geographic features of the Lake Superior region<br />

of Canada. Includes topics such as rock types, origin of landscape features,<br />

GLG 266 Geology of the Grand Canyon 2 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisite: Permission of Instructor. A study of the origin and<br />

distribution of the geologic features of the Grand Canyon of Arizona.<br />

Major topics include rock types, origin of landscape features, geologic<br />

history of the Grand Canyon, and human impact of the environment.<br />

Field work in the Grand Canyon is required. Students must pay own<br />

Studies the rocks and glaciated features of the lower peninsula of<br />

Michigan. Includes rock types, origin of landscape features, and studies of<br />

Provides a geologic interpretation of selected world regions. Emphasis on<br />

physical environments, natural geologic processes, and geologic history<br />

participation of the Afro-American community in the Civil War and<br />

the ideological, strategic and demographic changes and conflicts of<br />

Afro-Americans since emancipation, with special emphasis on legal and<br />

extra-legal terror and the many social movements including Bookerism,<br />

Garveyism, Pan- Africanism, “The King Years” (specifically 1955-1968),<br />

and the post-King era. Examines emerging Africa, new-racism, and the<br />

diversity within the current Afro-American community. (45-0)<br />

Prerequisites:READING LEVEL 4 or WRITING LEVEL 2. Surveys the<br />

social, cultural, economic and political history of Hispanic Americans<br />

Mexican-Americans. Analyzes the present status of different Hispanic<br />
