EMS 112 Basic Emergency Medical Technician<br />

2 Sem Hrs<br />

Requires concurrent enrollment in EMS 110, 111 and 113 and instructor’s<br />

permission. Third in a sequence of four courses to prepare a student as a<br />

Basic EMT. Emphasizes bandaging, splinting, backboarding concerning<br />

injuries to the head & spine as well as musculoskeletal systems. To<br />

successfully pass this course, the student will be required to successfully<br />

complete the national registry exam and obtain a state license. Fees for<br />

this exam and license are the responsibility of the student. (32-0)<br />

EMS 113 Basic Emergency Medical Technician<br />

Field Experience<br />

2 Sem Hrs<br />

Requires concurrent enrollment in EMS 110, 111 and 112 and instructor’s<br />

permission. Fourth in a sequence of four courses to prepare a student as<br />

a Basic EMT. Requires Clinical rotation for EMT (hospital & ambulance).<br />

Successful completion of this course and EMS110, EMS111 and EMS112<br />

enables the student to apply for and take the National Registry exam<br />

to qualify for state licensing as a Basic EMT. To successfully pass this<br />

course, the student will be required to successfully complete the National<br />

Registry exam and obtain a state license. Fees for this exam and license<br />

are the responsibility of the student. (0-32)<br />

ENG 090 Introduction to Academic Writing 4 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisite: WRITING LEVEL 1: Provides those who are not yet prepared<br />

for academic work in the regular composition sequence (ENG 111A,<br />

ENG 111, ENG 112 or OAT 150, 151, 152) with opportunity to improve<br />

their writing skills in an interactive and collaborative setting. Includes<br />

practice of personal and academic writing with special attention given<br />

to individual needs, which may include organization, sentence structure<br />

and variety, correct usage, and vocabulary development. Practices active<br />

reading strategies to understand, interpret, and apply information from<br />

reading. Does not earn credit towards graduation. Must earn a grade of<br />

“C” or better in ENG 090 for progression to the next level. (60-0)<br />

ENG 093W Effective Reading and Vocabulary<br />

Prerequisite: READING LEVEL 1. Designed for those whose academic<br />

and personal needs call for building skills, confidence, greater<br />

comprehension, and enjoyment of reading. Includes techniques for<br />

understanding and remembering a wider reading vocabulary. Applies<br />

reading strategies to a wide variety of reading materials under the<br />

guidance of an instructor. Does not earn credit towards graduation.<br />

Credit may be earned in ENG 093 or ENG 108, but not both. (60-0)<br />

ENG 097W Academic Reading 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisite: READING LEVEL 2. Designed for those who are good<br />

readers, but who still need to make improvements in reading, vocabulary,<br />

and critical thinking to become successful and independent college<br />

students. Provides instruction and practice in study-reading college<br />

level texts; opportunities for self -selected research, reading and sharing<br />

of information; and the chance to select and read imaginative materials<br />

for pleasure and increased self -confidence as a reader. Does not earn<br />

credit towards graduation.( Credit may be earned in ENG 097 or ENG<br />

ENG 104W Applied Spelling Techniques 2 Sem Hrs<br />

Emphasizes English spelling patterns and sequences as well as techniques<br />

for approaching spelling for adult learners. Shows students how to<br />

apply critical thinking strategies to identify and meet their individual<br />
