DH 112 Medical Assessment/Emergencies 2 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: DH 100 and 101 each with a C (2.0) minimum grade,<br />

current HCP CPR certification and admission to the Dental Hygiene<br />

Program. Provides the opportunity to practice assessment, identification,<br />

and dental hygiene treatment protocol of septicemic emergencies which<br />

may occur in treating the dental patient. (15-30)<br />

DH 114 Oral Health 2 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: DH 100 and 101, each with a C (2.0) minimum grade<br />

and admission to the Dental Hygiene Program. Presents theory of<br />

the characteristics, origin, and development of fluoride, dentifrices,<br />

mouthwashes, and deposits that affect the tooth surface. Emphasizes<br />

toothbrushing, auxiliary aids, dental appliances, care of pre/post surgical<br />

and oral cancer patients. (15-45)<br />

DH 115 Clinical Techniques 5 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: DH 100 and 101 each with a C (2.0) minimum grade<br />

and admission to the Dental Hygiene Program. Presents theory and<br />

application of various periodontal instruments, plaque and stain removal<br />

and instrument sharpening skills that are necessary for proper use in the<br />

dental hygiene diagnostic and therapeutic services. Emphasizes proper<br />

documentation of findings. (45-90)<br />

DH 116 Preventive Nutrition 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: DH 100 and 101, each with a C (2.0) minimum, grade and<br />

admission to the Dental Hygiene Program. Provides theory of foods,<br />

essential nutrients and their effects on general health as well as oral<br />

health. Emphasizes nutrition in dentistry for the dental hygienist in<br />

prevention and health promotion. (45-0)<br />

DH 118 Head and Neck Anatomy 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: DH 100 and 101, each with a C (2.0) minimum grade and<br />

admission to the Dental Hygiene Program. Presents anatomy of the<br />

human head and neck and surrounding structures. Emphasizes basic<br />

anatomical terminology, landmarks, and a complete description of the<br />

skeletal, muscular, lymphatic, vascular, and innervation systems. (30-45)<br />

DH 120 Periodontics I 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: DH 110, 111, 112, 114, 115, 116, and 118 each with a C<br />

(2.0) minimum grade. Provides the opportunity to study the biology of<br />

the periodontium, etiology, epidemiology, pathology, and treatment of<br />

periodontal diseases. (45-0)<br />

DH 121 Dental Hygiene Seminar I 2 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: DH 110, DH 111, DH 112, DH 114, DH 115, DH 116, and<br />

DH 118 each with a C (2.0) minimum grade. Introduces fundamentals of<br />

treatment planning, recall systems, documentation, patient management,<br />

and communication with diverse patient populations. (30-0)<br />

DH 122 Oral Histology and Embryology 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: DH 110, 111, 112, 114, 115, 116, and 118 each with a C (2.0)<br />

minimum grade. Provides theory of the embryological development<br />

of the oral cavity and identification and classifications of normal and<br />

abnormal conditions of the oral cavity and supporting structures.<br />

Includes microscopic study of the histology of the human dentition and<br />

the surrounding supporting structures. (45-0)<br />

DH 123 Dental Radiography 2 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: DH 110, 111, 112, 114, 115, 116, and 118 each with a C<br />

(2.0) minimum grade. Presents theory of characteristics of radiation,<br />

components and functions of x-ray equipment, x-ray production,<br />

radiation biology and safety as well as processing and technical errors.<br />

minimum grade. Introduces the techniques of exposing, processing, and<br />

mounting dental radiographs, as well as radiographic interpretation.<br />

DH 124 Pharmacology for Dental Hygiene 2 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: DH 110, DH 111, DH 112, DH 114, DH 115, DH 116, and<br />

DH 118 each with a C (2.0) minimum grade. Concurrent enrollment in<br />

DH 120, DH 121, DH 122, DH 123, DH 123L, DH 125, and LW 206A.<br />

Provides introduction to drugs and anesthetic agents commonly used<br />

in the dental practice. Includes origin, physical and chemical properties,<br />

methods of administration, and biological effects on the various body<br />

systems. (30-0)<br />

DH 125 Clinical Dental Hygiene I 4 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: DH 110, DH 111, DH 112, DH 114, DH 115, DH 116, and<br />

DH 118 (each with a minimum “C” grade). Concurrent enrollment in<br />

DH 120, DH 121, DH 122, DH 123, DH 123L, DH 124, and LW 206A.<br />

Provides the opportunity to implement basic treatment skills with clinic<br />

Anxiety in the Dental Office<br />

3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prequisities: DH 120, DH 121, DH 122, DH 123, DH 123L, DH 125, and<br />

LW 206A with a mininum “C”(2.0) grade in each. Concurrent enrollment<br />

in DH 131, DH 135, LW 206B, and continued enrollment in DH 124.<br />

Provides the knowledge and practice to administer local anesthesia and<br />

nitrous oxide/oxygen sedation in a safe and effective manner. Provides<br />

the opportunity to perform various local anesthetic injection techniques<br />

and administer nitrous oxide and oxygen to achieve conscious sedation<br />

at a clinical level of competency. (30-30)<br />

DH 131 Dental Hygiene Seminar II 1 Sem Hr<br />

Prerequisites: DH 120, DH 121, DH 122, DH 123, DH 123L, DH 125, and<br />

LW 206A each with a C (2.0) minimum grade. Concurrent enrollment<br />

in DH 130, DH 135, LW 206B, and continued enrollment in DH 124.<br />

Emphasizes the study of techniques and philosophies of treating patients<br />

with special needs. (15-0)<br />

DH 135 Clinical Dental Hygiene II 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: DH 120, DH 121, DH 122, DH 123, DH 123L, DH 125, and<br />

LW 206A, each with a “C” (2.0) minimum grade. Concurrent enrollment<br />

in DH 130, DH 131, LWA 206B, and continued enrollment in DH 124.<br />

Provides the opportunity to practice and increase the students’ proficiency<br />

skill levels from previous Dental Hygiene courses. (7.5-90)<br />

DH 210W Periodontics II 2 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: DH 130, DH 131, DH 135, and LW 206B, each with a “C”<br />

(2.0) minimum grade. Concurrent enrollment in DH 213, DH 214W, DH<br />

215, DH 216W, and DH 219. Provides the opportunity for assessment,<br />

documentation, and treatment with pain management of the periodontal<br />

patient and to demonstrate ultrasonic scaling, root debridement, planing,<br />

and irrigation. (15-45)<br />

DH 213 Oral Pathology 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: DH 130, DH 131, DH 135 and LW 206B each with a “C”<br />

(2.0) minimum grade. Concurrent enrollment in DH 210, DH 214, DH<br />

215, DH 216 and DH 219. Introduces the process, identification, and<br />

classification of oral diseases. Emphasizes the prevention of the diseases<br />

with the scope of responsibility and practice of the dental hygienist. (45-0)<br />

DH 214W Dental Materials 4 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: DH 130, DH 131, DH 135 and LWA 206B each with a “C”<br />

(2.0) minimum grade. Concurrent enrollment in DH 210, DH 213, DH<br />

215, DH 216 and DH 219.Presents theory and clinical application related<br />

to properties and manipulation of dental materials and devices used in<br />

dental procedures. (45-45)<br />

DH 215 Clinical Dental Hygiene III 6 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: DH 130, DH 131, DH 135, and LWA 206B, each with a<br />

“C” (2.0) minimum grade. Concurrent enrollment in DH 210, DH 213,<br />

DH 214, DH 216, and DH 219. Provides the opportunity to practice and<br />

increase the students’ proficiency skill levels of advanced instruments<br />
