ART 286 Digital Animation and Interactive<br />

Design II<br />

3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: ART 285. Emphasizes cooperative learning, problem<br />

solving and the exploration of current design trends in technology.<br />

Applies contemporary concepts, utilizing computer literacy, (information<br />

literacy), and accessing information to create original web sites and<br />

digital 3D interactivity. Provides the ability to produce and develop<br />

game design, animations for the web, interactive video presentations,<br />

and/or explore a creative endeavor targeted for a specific audience, or<br />

fine art purpose. (30-60)<br />

ART 287 Printmaking II, Past and Present 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: ART 280 (or equivalent). Highly Recommended: ART<br />

271 or ART 206, ART 116 or ART 217. Expands upon a “digital era”<br />

approach to fine-art printmaking; negotiating between the studio,<br />

computer, printer and press. Combines and incorporates safe, nontoxic<br />

print and transfer methods and materials (both traditional and<br />

contemporary) with new digital directions and technologies found in<br />

today’s printmaking curriculum and professional art industry. Develops<br />

further their printmaking portfolios in a variety of approaches taught,<br />

or select a chosen concentration in printmaking to further investigate<br />

ART 288 Digital Imaging II 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisite: ART 271. Explores advanced image and photographic<br />

manipulation software. Develops further and emphasizes aesthetic<br />

awareness in the art of digital image-making. Credit may be earned in<br />

either ART 271B or ART 272 but not both. (30-60)<br />

ART 289 New Media 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: None. Recommend ART 111, ART 115, ART 116. Provides<br />

a lecture/discussion style format in combination with studio work time<br />

to explore new art forms. Credit may be earned in ART 289 or IHU 289<br />

American Sign Language<br />

ASL 111 American Sign Language I 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Introduces the student to American Sign Language, the language many<br />

deaf or hearing impaired adults use. Incorporates the deaf culture<br />

throughout the course. Credit may be earned in SL 111 or ASL 111 but<br />

not in both. (45-0)<br />

ASL 112W American Sign Language II 4 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: SL 111 or ASL 111 or instructor permission. Builds upon<br />

skills, knowledge, vocabulary and grammar gained in SL 111/ASL<br />

111, while increasing conversational fluency and speed. Emphasizes<br />

expressive signing, including multiple meaning words, concept words<br />

vocabulary, classifiers and synonyms. (60-0)<br />

Prerequisite: ASL 111 or permission of the instructor. Focuses on<br />

fingerspelling as a part of the communication process of American Sign<br />

Language. Addresses expressive and receptive skills. Meets the needs<br />

ASL 114 American Sign Language<br />

Fingerspelling B<br />

1 Sem Hr<br />

Prerequisite: ASL 111 or SL 111 or permission of the instructor. May be<br />

taken before or after ASL 113. Focuses on fingerspelling in the context<br />

of a signed sentence and proper use of fingerspelling in accordance with<br />

Deaf Cultural Rules. Addresses expressive and receptive skills. Meets<br />

the needs of varying skill levels. (15-0)<br />

ASL 116 Sign for Religion 1 Sem Hr<br />

Prerequisite: ASL 111 or equivalent. Offers additional receptive and<br />

expressive sign language vocabulary and concepts specific to church<br />

and temple. (15-0)<br />

ASL 200W Deaf Culture 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Studies the Deaf community and culture. Addresses a broad array of<br />

topics, including history, rules for social interaction, group norms, identity,<br />

language and values. Discusses Deaf perspective and its interface with<br />

the hearing culture. (45-0)<br />

ASL 211W American Sign Language III 4 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisite: SL 111 or ASL 111, SL 112 or ASL 112 or demonstrated<br />

knowledge of American Sign Language. Builds upon skills, knowledge,<br />

vocabulary and linguistics gained in previous classes. Exposes student<br />

to more intense American Sign Language, with more emphasis on<br />

expressive skills than previous courses. Continues exploration of Deaf<br />

ASL 212W American Sign Language IV 4 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: SL 121 or ASL 211 or demonstrated knowledge of American<br />

Sign Language. Concludes sequence of sign language courses. Provides<br />

opportunity to develop advanced skill, fluency and vocabulary. Deals<br />

with issues related to Deaf culture. Includes information flow and<br />

expression beyond repetition and replication. Credit may be earned in<br />

SL 122 or ASL 212 but not in both. (60-0)<br />

AST 111 Introduction to Astronomy 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Familiarizes the student with the origin, characteristics, and evolution of<br />

the solar system, the stars, the galaxies, and the universe. Emphasizes<br />

the way in which our understanding of the universe has changed. (45-0)<br />

AST 111L Astronomical Investigation 1 Sem Hr<br />

Prerequisite: PHY 100 or AST 111, but not both, or concurrent enrollment.<br />

Includes experimental design to investigate such events as the night sky,<br />

planetary motion, and astronomical laws. Explores use of telescopes and<br />

spectroscopes in establishing the relationship among planets in the solar<br />

system, star distances, and stellar life cycles. (0-30)<br />

AUT 100 Introduction to Automotive Service 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Introduces the Automotive Service facility, basic tools and equipment,<br />

service publications, safety practices, the automobile, its components, and<br />

professionalism. Concentrates on terminology and general component<br />

AUT 108 Introductory Automotive Electronics 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Studies automotive electrical and electronic fundamentals, magnetism,<br />

and electrical test equipment, terminology, operation, and diagnosis.<br />

Develops skills in establishing an electrical base for advanced electrical/<br />

electronic courses and in controlled learning experiences with basic<br />

electricity and electronics using meters and test equipment. (35-25)<br />

AUT 110 Automotive Electronics Service 4 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisite: WELD 101 and WELD 108; also Minimum C (2.0) grade in<br />

both AUT 100 and AUT 108. Studies electrical test equipment, battery,<br />

wiring diagram, starting and charging system terminology, operation,<br />

and diagnosis. Develops skills in diagnosis of battery, diagnosis and<br />

repair of starting and charging systems and application of wiring<br />

Prerequisite: Minimum C (2.0) grade in both AUT 100 and AUT 108.<br />

Studies automotive gasoline engines, terminology, operation, and<br />
