ART 219 Watercolor 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: Art 111, Art 115. Introduces fundamental watercolor<br />

painting concepts, techniques and materials. Surveys various processes<br />

from traditional to contemporary with an emphasis placed on articulating<br />

a personal response to various painting problems (0-90)<br />

ART 222 Sculpture 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisite: ART 115 or 116 or permission of instructor. An introduction<br />

to a variety of sculptural concepts and techniques utilizing a variety of<br />

media. (0-90)<br />

ART 223 Metal Sculpture 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Co-requisites: WELD 101 and WELD 108. Introduces the use of a variety<br />

of metal processes to create sculptural art forms. These processes<br />

include oxy-acetylene brazing and welding, mig welding, cutting and<br />

fabrication techniques. (0-90)<br />

ART 231 Ceramics I 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Introductory study of clay, glazes, and their applications, and techniques<br />

of wheel and hand construction through the process of low temperature<br />

Raku firing. Course fee required. (0-90)<br />

ART 232 Ceramics II 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisite: ART 231 or permission of instructor. Ceramics II uses highfire<br />

stoneware clay bodies and introduces firing techniques with high<br />

fire glazes. The techniques learned in Ceramics I are employed and are<br />

expanded to create a variety of well developed utilitarian and sculptural<br />

forms. Course fee required. (0-90)<br />

ART 251W Architectural History 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisite: READING LEVEL 3 and WRITING LEVEL 3. Teaches the<br />

historical development of architecture as a major art form. Views this<br />

development in relation to man’s knowledge of building techniques<br />

and available materials as affected by geographic, economic, political,<br />

and religious influences. Credit may be earned in ART 251 or ARC 251,<br />

but not in both. (45-0)<br />

ART 253W History of Graphic Design 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Surveys the evolution of graphic design in Western culture from<br />

prehistory to the postmodern era. Discusses ideas, theories and practices<br />

in art and design, as well as the quality, breadth and comprehension of<br />

resourcefulness, content and the applicable origins of graphic design.<br />

ART 255W Contemporary Art History 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisite: READING LEVEL 2 or WRITING LEVEL 2 or ART 152.<br />

Explores contemporary visual arts, with an emphasis on art created<br />

ART 261 Contemporary Art in Chicago 2 Sem Hrs<br />

Surveys contemporary art forms, processes, and ideas of the international<br />

art market in a 3-day visit to Chicago which will include the International<br />

Art Fair, the Chicago Art Institute and the Contemporary Museum of<br />

Art. Students pay tuition plus all of their expenses. (30-0)<br />

ART 262 Art Internship I 1 Sem Hr<br />

Prerequisites: Second year art student with minimum of a 3.0 GPA and<br />

instructor approval. Provides advanced hands-on experience through<br />

internship with approved off-site gallery photo or design studio,<br />

company or organization. Requires at least 6 hours per week under<br />

direct supervision of onsite internship coordinator. (0-90)<br />

ART 267 Producing a Student Publication 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: ART 271, ART 276, ART 277. Provides a guided opportunity<br />

to learn about publishing by compiling, selecting, editing, and designing<br />

an annual publication of student writing, photography, and artwork.<br />

Focuses on hands-on experience in critical reading, writing, and thinking;<br />

editing; layout; production details; marketing; design; and distribution.<br />

Credit may be earned in ART 216 or ART 267, but not both. Credit may<br />

also be earned in IHU 267, but not in the same semester. (45-45)<br />

ART 271 Digital Imaging I 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Presents technical aspects/skills of Adobe/Macintosh software (primarily<br />

Photoshop and Imageready), with an arts emphasis toward developing<br />

aesthetic awareness. Explores image and photo manipulation, combining<br />

word and image, scanning, and acquired input. Introduces storage and<br />

output methods. (30-60)<br />

ART 274 Digital Painting 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: ART 111 and ART 115. Draws and paints using the electronic<br />

canvas to create new images by scanning previous art works, textures,<br />

and photographs. Emphasizes the techniques of using the software<br />

program, and stresses the elements of art and design. (30-60)<br />

ART 276 Electronic Page Design 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: ART 271. Introduces students to the capabilities and<br />

applications of page- layout design software (such as QuarkXPress).<br />

Builds on a knowledge of Basic Two-Dimensional Design, and the use<br />

of Photoshop and Illustrator to strengthen design and layout skills.<br />

Addresses file management techniques and output-ready file formats<br />

for high-end printers at commercial service bureaus and printing<br />

companies. (30-60)<br />

ART 277 Illustration - Digital Media 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Presents the use of Illustrator software including design and technical<br />

aspects, and the relationship to other graphic applications in the printing<br />

industry. (30-60)<br />

ART 279 Web Page Design Arts 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisite: ART 271. Understand fundamental web and internet<br />

concepts and how to adapt and extend basic design principles to web<br />

design using the Adobe Dreamweaver software application. (30-60)<br />

ART 280 Printmaking I, Past & Present 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: ART 111 and ART 115. (Highly Recommended: ART 271<br />

or ART 206 and ART 217). Introduces a new “digital era” approach to<br />

fine-art printmaking; negotiating between the studio, computer, printer,<br />

and press. Combines and incorporates safe, non-toxic print and transfer<br />

methods and materials (both traditional and contemporary) with<br />

new digital directions and technologies found in today’s printmaking<br />

curriculum and professional art industry. (0-90)<br />

ART 283 Multimedia Authoring 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisite: ART 271 and ART 277. Presents the practice and production<br />

of digital multimedia technology and movie-making (primarily) through<br />

the use of Macromedia Director software. Concentrates on the combined<br />

and individual creation of interactive movies, sound, animation, game<br />

design, marketing presentations, simulations, kiosks and full-scale<br />

multimedia productions. (30-60)<br />

ART 284 Typography 3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisites: ART 271 and ART 276 and ART 277. Introduces typographic<br />

principles, guidelines and related terminology. Examines type, its<br />

classification, measurement systems and methods of specification.<br />

Explores various typographic applications including use of grid systems<br />

and the development of visual hierarchy of information. (45-45)<br />

ART 285 Digital Animation and Interactive<br />

Design<br />

3 Sem Hrs<br />

Prerequisite: ART 271 and ART 277 . Introduces (primarily) Macromedia’s<br />

Flash software authoring environment. Explores various ways to create<br />

interactive animation for the web or as stand alone CDs. Examines the<br />

additional use of sound, related software and web multimedia motion<br />

graphics. (30-60)<br />
