Admission and Pre-Enrollment<br />

Admission Policy and Procedures<br />

<strong>Delta</strong> <strong>College</strong> is open to all individuals included in any one of the<br />

categories listed below. Admission to <strong>Delta</strong> <strong>College</strong> does not ensure<br />

enrollment in all courses or program areas. Many courses have prerequisites;<br />

some programs have additional admission requirements.<br />

Academic programs of study that require specific prerequisites or eligibility<br />

requirements are outlined in Section III, Programs.<br />

Regular Admission<br />

• graduate of an accredited high school<br />

• non high school graduate whose high school class has graduated<br />

• home school graduate at least 17 years old<br />

• person with an official General Education Development (GED) credential<br />

(certificate/diploma)<br />

• person from another country entering the U.S. for college educational<br />

purposes under an authorized student visa approved by <strong>Delta</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />

Conditional “Special” Admission (must reapply each semester)<br />

• guest student from another college/university<br />

• home school graduate under age 17<br />

• student currently enrolled in secondary level accredited school or<br />

home school<br />

A committee consisting of the Dean of Faculty, Dean of Student and<br />

Educational Services, and the Director of Admissions may make exceptions<br />

to this policy based upon the individual having the ability to<br />

benefit from the <strong>College</strong>’s educational programs.<br />

Note: If you do not have a high school diploma or have not successfully<br />

completed the GED, you may be restricted from receiving federal<br />

financial aid if “ability to benefit” criteria are not met. We encourage<br />

you to contact the Admissions Office, Financial Aid Office, or the Assessment/Testing<br />

Services Office for detailed information concerning<br />

“ability to benefit” criteria.<br />

Admission Dates<br />

Although Admission Applications are accepted and processed continuously,<br />

we encourage you to submit your Application preferably 6-8<br />

months, but at least 30 days, prior to your enrollment period. If you plan<br />

to request financial aid, it is essential for you to apply for admission and<br />

for financial aid 8 to 10 weeks prior to registration.<br />

Our traditional starting dates are:<br />

• Fall Semester (late August/Early September)<br />

• Winter Semester (early January)<br />

• Spring Session (early May)<br />

• Summer Session (early July)<br />

Admission Procedures<br />

Admission fee: $20 (one-time, non refundable)<br />

You will be admitted at <strong>Delta</strong> <strong>College</strong> as:<br />

Regular Admission<br />

1. First Time In <strong>College</strong>: If you have not previously attended any college<br />

or university prior to enrolling at <strong>Delta</strong> <strong>College</strong>.<br />

2. Transfer: If you have attended another college or university prior to<br />

enrolling at <strong>Delta</strong> <strong>College</strong>.<br />

3. Re-Entry/Readmit: If you have not registered for classes at the <strong>College</strong><br />

for two academic years or more. (No admission fee required if<br />

previously admitted after July 1998, or have previous <strong>Delta</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />

academic credits).<br />

Conditional Admission (must reapply each semester)<br />

1. Guest: If you are enrolled at another college or university and desire<br />

concurrent admission.<br />

2. Dual Enrollment/Fast Track: If you are enrolled in grades 9-12 and<br />

approved by your high school counselor and/or principal.<br />

3. Special Enrollment (Home School/Junior High/Other): If you are<br />

“academically qualified” this status provides a parallel route for you<br />

to enhance your present curriculum, enrich your academic experience,<br />

and earn college credit while doing so.<br />

<strong>Delta</strong> <strong>College</strong> complies with applicable federal and state laws prohibiting<br />

discrimination, including Title IX of the education amendments of 1972,<br />

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities<br />

Act of 1990 and the Michigan Handicapper’s Civil Rights Act.<br />

Completed Admission applications, along with the admission fee if<br />

applicable, must be returned to the Admissions Office. Please review<br />

the following admission categories and follow the procedures outlined.<br />

1. High School Seniors: If you plan to enroll the summer or fall after your<br />

June graduation, you need to complete an Admission’s Application<br />

and give it to your high school counselor or principal. Ask your high<br />

school to send your application, along with your current transcript<br />

to the Admissions Office. Be sure to request that a final transcript be<br />

sent upon your graduation.<br />

2. New Students/Adults out of High School/Transfer: Complete an<br />

Admission’s Application, include the admission fee, and return it to<br />

the Admissions Office. You need to request from each previously attended<br />

high school, education center, and/or college/university a copy<br />

of your official transcript be sent directly to the Registrar’s Office. Any<br />

transcript possessed by the student will be considered non-official.<br />

A photocopy of one of the following must be submitted with the application<br />

to complete the package for residency verification.<br />

a. A valid drivers License reflecting the current address of the bearer<br />

or Secretary of State Personal Identification Card.<br />

b. Voter Registration Card reflecting the current address of the holder.<br />

c. Current property tax receipt for the primary place of residence.<br />

d. Other legal documents such as court-issued guardianship papers.<br />

Note: In order to receive financial aid, you must be in a degree or<br />

certificate program.<br />

3. Guest Students: If you are attending another Michigan college and<br />

wish to take <strong>Delta</strong> courses on a Guest status, you must complete Part<br />

<strong>Delta</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>2012</strong>-<strong>2013</strong><br />
