Managing marks
Marks in the Preps Ganging software are based on the Kodak
SmartMarks software technology, with minimal support of the older
static marks used in other Preps software. Preps Ganging includes a
selection of custom mark-image files and built-in marks that are
controlled by positioning rules, which you can modify in the Info dialog
box for placed marks or mark files. You can also create new marks by
modifying existing marks, and you can add and use your own mark
image files.
When you create a mark and save it to a location that is within the
Marks folder, the new mark file is automatically given a .smk file
name extension and can be selected in the Marks list for future jobs.
Preps Ganging provides minimal support for some of the static marks
that might exist in Preps templates.
Adding marks to a press sheet layout
‣ Drag a mark from the Marks list to the press sheet in the
workspace.
Marks that you add to a press sheet are placed on all instances of the
page or pages that you specify, including nonsequential pages. For
example, if you place a mark on page 1 and a job's press sheet
includes five pages that are numbered as page 1, then the mark is
placed on all five pages.
Checking and editing mark information
Each mark occupies the area that you specify in its Info properties:
• For text marks, rectangle marks, and repeating marks, you define
the height and width of the area.
• For line marks, you define the start and end points.
• For custom marks, the size of the mark is predetermined and is
not editable. However, you can specify the area that a duplicating
custom mark (color bar) should fill.
