Distance Learning Anytime/Anywhere Classes
Learn outside the traditional classroom! Check out the Student Resources
page at www.kirkwood.edu/distancelearning to determine if
Anytime/Anywhere (ATAW) courses are right for you.
New registration policy: First-time students in Anytime/Anywhere
classes must submit COMPASS or ACT scores. Students with earned
Kirkwood ATAW credit are exempt from this restriction. Find further
details about this policy under the Registration Rule link at www.kirkwood.edu/distancelearning.
Placement testing can be completed at
any Kirkwood campus or center location. Students outside of the Kirkwood
area can test at any accredited testing center and have scores
sent to Kirkwood prior to ATAW registration. Contact the Test Center at
319-398-5456 for more information and to find a location closest to
you.
Anytime/Anywhere Registration Restriction: Students with a GPA of
less than 1.8 for all ATAW classes within the previous three years will
have a registration restriction placed on their record. The restriction
prevents registration in ATAW classes until the average for ATAW courses
reaches 1.8 or better, or a three year period has passed. The average
for ATAW courses can be improved by retaking failed or low-scored
courses in a face-to-face format. Retaking and passing courses removes
previous grades from the transcript. Removal of failing grades
may also be accomplished by approval of a petition for policy waiver
allowing withdrawal from those classes. Note: This registration restriction
does not prevent students from enrolling in face-to-face or hybrid
format classes, only ATAW classes.
Anytime/Anywhere courses have deadlines: There is always a start
and end date. Instructors decide on any other deadlines. you must
begin your course promptly and make sure you understand and can
meet your instructor’s requirements. If you receive financial aid, be
sure to know your instructor’s attendance requirement.
Financial aid attendance: Go to www.kirkwood.edu/online and click
“Are you Receiving Financial Aid?”. Financial aid is available for books
before classes begin. After classes begin, your attendance must be
verified in order to use financial aid for textbooks. To know the attendance
verification assignment for a packet course you must purchase
the packet/course guide from the bookstore.
Buying books/materials: View information and purchase textbooks
online at www.kirkwood.edu/bookstore. Select ATAW & Online Classes
and then Course Materials. you must purchase the materials specified
for your section. Some online courses may require an access code
found in the textbook, and course work cannot be started without it.
Packets/course guides for packet courses must be purchased from
the bookstore. Packets will vary for different instructors, so be sure to
purchase the one specified for your section.
