3.9 Therapeutic support and counselling
Counselling is available to young people who already receive a service from Young Peoples Service. The counselling
service can be one to one, couples or groups. Young people choose the issues that they want to address in the
counselling and are offered support to attend if needed. The counselling is delivered by qualified counsellors and
managed by a clinical supervisor. The supervisor also supervises the volunteer counsellors who are qualified or training
at Diploma level to be counsellors. Counselling is available at the three venues from which we operate our services
(North Kenton, Lansdowne Crescent and Gosforth CHO) to make it more accessible and there is a drop in for crisis work
and for the young people to check the service out.
Therapeutic support is available to all the Young People’s Service staff. This can be in the form of clinical supervision
either individually or in groups, consultation about a situation or individual and training to broaden understanding of the
young people and develop interpersonal skills.
