The <strong>Audi</strong> <strong>A7</strong> <strong>Sportback</strong> and <strong>S7</strong> <strong>Sportback</strong> do not<br />
only come with many new technical innovations<br />
but also, on request, with something extra<br />
special: a sort of sixth sense – or <strong>Audi</strong> pre sense.<br />
Various vehicle systems are used to categorise<br />
different driving situations and, where necessary,<br />
implement actions for preventive occupant<br />
protection or for collision reduction.<br />
Radar sensors at the front and rear (depending<br />
on the equipment fitted) gauge the area in front<br />
of and behind your vehicle. A video camera also<br />
monitors the road in front of you. It is located<br />
in the area of the interior mirror –the highest<br />
possible point inside the vehicle – and delivers<br />
25 pictures per second with a resolution that<br />
has yet to be matched in the field of automotive<br />
engineering. In addition, the ESC control unit<br />
transmits further data. Using these different<br />
sources of information, <strong>Audi</strong> pre sense can<br />
create a very realistic picture of the vehicle’s<br />
surroundings.<br />
The optional <strong>Audi</strong> pre sense basic includes various<br />
preventive passenger protection systems that are<br />
activated in the event of a critical driving situation.<br />
These include: tensioning of the front seat belts,<br />
activation of the hazard warning system, and<br />
closing of the windows and, if present, the sliding<br />
roof.<br />
<strong>Audi</strong> pre sense front additionally monitors the<br />
traffic ahead via the radar sensors of the optional<br />
adaptive cruise control with Stop&Go function.<br />
In critical situations, the <strong>Audi</strong> braking guard<br />
contained with it warns the driver and increases<br />
the braking force if necessary. In extreme cases,<br />
the preventive protection systems are activated.<br />
<strong>Audi</strong> pre sense rear monitors the traffic behind<br />
the vehicle with the help of the rear sensors of<br />
the optional <strong>Audi</strong> side assist.<br />
<strong>Audi</strong> pre sense plus is included if ordering the<br />
optional adaptive cruise control with Stop&Go<br />
function and <strong>Audi</strong> side assist. In addition to the<br />
functions of <strong>Audi</strong> pre sense front, <strong>Audi</strong> pre sense<br />
plus activates the <strong>Audi</strong> braking guard in certain<br />
situations in which a collision is unavoidable and<br />
initiates maximum deceleration to minimise the<br />
impact speed of the crash by up to 40 km/h.
