BOONTON TOWNSHIP BOARD OF EDUCATION Boonton Township, New Jersey 07005 PROCEDURE Textbook Fines In the event that a student harms or loses a textbook, the following fines shall be imposed: File Code 3250 R 1. If a textbook is damaged (i.e., broken spine, torn cover, lose pages with complete pagination, or markings that can be glued, taped or cleaned), a fine of $10 is to be paid by the student prior to receiving the final report card. A means to repair the book will be directed by the school. 2. If a textbook is damaged beyond repair (i.e., lost cover, missing pages, indelible marks covering instructional content, wet, molded, or food/drink/substance damaged), a fine of the replacement cost of the book is to be paid by the student prior to receiving the final report card. 3. In the event a book is irreplaceably damaged or the book is no longer available, the original fee shall be charged. The administration may choose to amend this fine on a per case basis. Teachers issuing fines must document the damage and forward a notice to the parents/guardians informing them of the fine. The School Office must be made aware of the fine with any other instructions concerning the withholding of report cards, etc. Approved: January 25, 2007 Readopted: March 6, 2008 43
BOONTON TOWNSHIP BOARD OF EDUCATION Boonton Township, New Jersey 07005 POLICY School Nutrition File Code 3517 The Boonton Township Board of Education recognizes that child and adolescent obesity has reached epidemic levels in the united State and that poor diet combined with the lack of physical activity negatively impacts on students' health, and their ability and motivation to learn. The Board is committed to: A. Providing students with healthy and nutritious foods, B. Encouraging the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables, low fat milk and whole grains, C. Supporting healthy eating through nutrition education, and D. Providing students with the opportunity to engage in daily physical activity. All reimbursable meals shall meet Federal nutrient standards as required by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Child Nutrition Program regulations. All items served as part of the After School Snack Program shall meet the standards as outlined within this policy. The following items may not be served, sold or given out as free promotion anywhere on school property at any time before the end of the school day: A. Foods of minimal nutritional value (FMNV) as defined by U.S. Department of Agriculture regulations, B. All food and beverage items listing sugar, in any form, as the first ingredient, and C. All forms of candy. The School shall reduce the purchase of any products containing trans fats. All snack and beverage items sold or served anywhere on school property during the school day, including items sold in a la carte lines, vending machines, snack bars, school stores and fundraisers or served in the reimbursable After School Snack Program, shall meet the following standards: A. Based on manufacturers’ nutritional data or nutrient facts labels: 1. No more than eight grams of total fat per serving, with the exception of nuts and seeds. 2. No more than two grams of saturated fat per serving. B. All beverages shall not exceed 12 ounces, with the following exceptions: 1. Water. 2. Milk containing two percent or less fat. C. Whole milk shall not exceed eight ounces. In the elementary grades: 100 percent of all beverages offered shall be milk, water or 100 percent fruit or vegetable juices. In the middle school grades: 1. At least 60 percent of all beverages offered, other than milk and water, shall be 100 percent fruit or vegetables juices. 2. No more than 40 percent of all ice cream/frozen desserts shall be allowed to exceed the above standards for sugar, fat, and saturated fat. Food and beverages served during special school celebrations or during curriculum related activities shall be exempt from this policy, with the exception of foods of minimal nutritional value as defined by USDA regulations. 44
