Dear Friends, 

You hold the final quarter report from 2008 on Tribute giving. I am thankful for the hundreds of gifts made 

to honor or remember the important people in our lives, and to support Barnes-Jewish at the same time. 

I especially appreciate these gifts as we go through challenging times as a Foundation and a nation. Even 

though we all watch our expenses more closely, Tribute giving is a cost-effective and meaningful way to 

mark the important milestones in our lives. 

As 2009 unfolds, please continue to support our work with gifts to honor and remember. There are so many

Marjorie Logan’s glaucoma was horrendous, but she faced it with determination 

and deep trust in her physician, Dr. Michael Kass. 

“My mother kept her sight for more than 20 years with the help of Dr. Kass,” 

says Joyce Day, Marjorie’s daughter. “She was a great patient to begin 

with, heading Dr. Kass’ guidance diligently. And the care she 

received was absolutely outstanding.” 

Dr. Kass performed several surgeries on Marjorie 

and monitored her condition closely, even seeing 

her on Christmas. Each time she was in the hospital, 

Joyce says that the staff treated her mother 

“like a queen.” 

“Barnes-Jewish is the best,” says Joyce. “My husband 

and I are glad to support its work, especially in research.” 

Through their tribute gift in honor of Dr. Kass, Joyce and 

Dr. Michael Day are helping the Barnes-Jewish Hospital 

Foundation support glaucoma research in St. Louis that 

will change lives well beyond our region. We are 

delighted to help them express their gratitude! 

“Dr. Kass treated my mother, Marjorie Logan, for many 

years. Because of him she had many years of sight. She 

did finally lose all vision a year before she died in 2006. 

Our family is truly grateful for the wonderful care that 

Dr. Kass and his staff showed to my mother. As I have 

recently been diagnosed with glaucoma, I feel it is very 

important to support research. Please let Dr. Kass know 

how grateful we are for the care he gave her.”
