Introduction<br />

• Laparoscopic gastric surgery is gaining popularity<br />

worldwide<br />

• Not only for benign gastric lesions but also for<br />

gastric cancers<br />

• Several studies have shown the safety and feasibility<br />

of this minimal invasive technique<br />

• Adequacy of lymphadenectomy as compared to open<br />

surgery has been proved beyond doubt

Aim<br />

Audit of initial experience in laparoscopic<br />

gastric surgery at UHA


Methods<br />

• Mixed retrospective analysis from a single surgical<br />

unit<br />

• Period: April 2005 to June 2009<br />

• 42 patients underwent laparoscopic gastric surgery<br />

• Mixed selection criteria applied<br />

• Mortality/morbidity & stay studied


Results<br />

• All 42 patients underwent laparoscopic<br />

procedures successfully with no<br />

conversion to open surgery
