we decided to proclaim our independence from other holiday areas and declare
Saas-Fee, with its stunning views of glaciers and eighteen majestic, 4,000m
mountain peaks, the Free Republic of Holidays. But don’t worry – Saas-Fee
is not just for mountaineers. With 350 km of hiking trails to explore, Alpine golf
to play, folklore evenings to enjoy and tame marmots to feed – you’ll forget your
everyday routine in no time! And if you love sun, the Saas Valley is the place for
you! Our unique microclimate means we have fabulous sunny weather on four
days out of five. And there are so many ways to enjoy the sun, too – dining in the
world’s highest revolving restaurant, strolling alongside idyllic Kreuzboden Lake,

The winters in Saas Valley are real winters – and the

the sun smiles down on the valley, and thanks to the
cableways – which you can ride for free in summer –
the 4,000 m mountain peaks surrounding the valley

Saas-Grund will enchant you with its rustic houses and narrow, winding lanes. The village is the starting point for numerous
hiking trails, such as the Almagelleralp and Gspon high Alpine trails on Kreuzboden, and the famous “Eighteen
4,000 metre peaks” trail on Hohsaas, which affords the best views of the Mischabel massif.

SAAS-ALMAGELL
Nestled in picturesque side valleys, Saas-Almagell is the southernmost village of the Republic. It is particularly popular
with hiking fans, who can take the Suonen Trail to Saas-Grund, the Adventure Trail from Furggstalden to the Almagelleralp,
or stone slab trails from Roman times up to the Monte Moro and Antrona passes.

Situated at the entrance to the Free Republic of Holidays, Saas-Balen boasts the impressive Fellbach waterfall and

miss the late-baroque round church built in 1812, the only one of its kind in Switzerland.

What makes a Saas-Fee summer so exciting for kids?
There’s the enormous ice grotto, the petting zoo in
Waldhüs Bodmen and our Fairytale Trail, which brings
to life exciting stories from the Saas Valley. Little ones
love the Hannig play area and the big Hohsi expedition
with its many handicraft bases. Hohsiland offers
kids plenty of active fun with suspension bridges and
climbing walls. For even more thrills there’s the adventure
forest, for kids and adults, where they can swing
from tree to tree like Tarzan! But the highlight is to be
found a whole 650 m higher: In Spielboden you can
feed our free roaming marmots with peanuts and carrots.
These cute little critters will stock up on food for
winter whilst you stock up on great family moments for
your photo album – you’ll treasure your memories of
the Free Republic of Holidays Saas-Fee.

was awarded with prestigious “Energy
Town” status. The accolade is reserved
for communities that make an outstanding contribution
towards sustainability and has been given to Saas-Fee
for its energy and transport policy. Saas-Fee takes the
environmental protection very seriously. Particle filters
on wood-burning fireplaces have made Saas-Fee virtually
fine dust-free and 100 percent of the community’s
electricity – even for the lifts and cableways – comes
from hydropower generated in the Valais. No other Swiss
residential area and tourist destination make such
