<strong>Uttarakhand</strong>. The Company targets a total <strong>of</strong> 1.5 lakh ha for bamboo plantation during<br />
2004-14.<br />
More than 20 bambusetums have been established all over <strong>Uttarakhand</strong> at forest<br />
division level representing various bamboo species. Centre <strong>of</strong> Excellence for Bamboo<br />
has been established at Lacchiwala and Centre <strong>of</strong> Excellence for Bamboo and Fiber<br />
has been established at Paniyali, Kotdwar. A Government order from the Principal Chief<br />
Conservator <strong>of</strong> Forest, Forest <strong>Department</strong> has been issued to make felling and transit<br />
rule for bamboos easy by lifting the ban on felling and transit <strong>of</strong> bamboos outside the<br />
forest area.<br />
<strong>Uttarakhand</strong> Bamboo and Fibre Development Board has set up two Ajeevika Vatika‟s at<br />
Peepalkoti, Chamoli and Kapkot, Bageshwar. The key components in these Vatika are<br />
bamboo and fiber nursery, demonstration plantation, bambusetum, treatment and<br />
processing <strong>of</strong> bamboos, training facilities for artisan‟s production and marketing <strong>of</strong><br />
bamboo products. The board has established a High tech Nursery in Haridwar district<br />
with a capacity <strong>of</strong> 2.0 lakh seedlings.<br />
The Board is also conducting trainings on Ringal Design Prototype Development in<br />
Ringal handicrafts, Bamboo furniture making, skill upgradation and design<br />
diversification trainings, Bamboo housing demonstration and training, entrepreneur<br />
development etc., under National Bamboo mission launched by govt. <strong>of</strong> India.<br />
Jatropha plantation : The State <strong>of</strong> <strong>Uttarakhand</strong> has potential for promoting Jatropha<br />
especially in the low elevation areas. For this purpose state government has set up<br />
<strong>Uttarakhand</strong> Bi<strong>of</strong>uel board. The board plans to raise Jatropha plantation on Van<br />
Panchayat lands in different forest divisions by selecting intended beneficiaries from<br />
Van Panchayat members. The plantation will be raised mainly on wasteland/ degraded<br />
Van Panchayat lands. The State Government has planned to cover around 2.0 lakh ha<br />
area under Jatropha plantation in two phases through the Board. However, in the first<br />
phase, 1.0 lakh ha would be covered in four years i.e. 25000 ha each year for 2005-06,<br />
2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09. The Board has assured buyback arrangement <strong>of</strong><br />
