Head of Outdoor Education

9 th year teaching at St Leonard’s 

Head of Outdoor Education for just 

under a year, prior to this position 

was Outdoor Ed coordinator for 

Upper School only, now overseeing 

whole school Outdoor Ed, including 

Camp Ibis. 

New to snow sports coordinator role 

Before working here was Ski 

Instructor for 4 years at: Mt 

Hotham, Whistler (Canada), Sierra at 

Tahoe (California), Sun Peaks 

(Canada) plus work as ski technician 

and on mountain photographer. 

Have 2 daughters – Taya (pictured 

here just before her 2 nd birthday last 

yr), and Sierra (in ELC4)

Miss Jane Marino 

Outdoor Education Teacher 

In 5 th year at the College, 

working with students from 

years 5- 12. 

Passionate about being in the 

mountains, skiing and having a 

great time! 

Skied in Australia and New 

Zealand. 

Has lead XC Ski trip with upper 

school students to Mt Stirling 

for last few years.

• Personal trainer in gym at all above times to facilitate and implement 

individual training program 

• Refer to College website under Community Sport for other training 

options such as spin classes, running, swimming etc.

Cross Country Ski Camp 

• July 2 – 5 

• Mt Stirling 

• Open to students in years 10 – 12. 12 places 

max. 

• Snow camping 

• Self catered 

• Run by Mr Clay Tyrrell (Outdoor Education 

teacher) 

• Approx cost $300. 

• Further details / bookings open start of term 2

Secondary Development Camp 

• Open to years 7 – 12 of all abilities 

• July 8 – 13 (second week of holidays) 

• Falls Creek 

• Accommodation at Snowdrift 

• $1400 per student, all inclusive (except 

lunches) 

• $1300 if student has own skis / board

Secondary Development Camp 

• Accommodation includes cooked breakfasts 

and 2 course dinners. 

• Package includes 2 hour lesson each day 

• Maximum 53 students and 7 staff

Primary Development Camp 

• Aimed at St Leonard’s students from ELC – Year 6. 

• Tentative booking for August 3 to 5 

• Mt Buller 

• Approx cost per student of $550, which includes, 

transport, accommodation, lift, 2 x 2 hour lessons and 

rental. 

• Parent must accompany student and have duty of care 

at all times outside lessons. 

• Approx cost per parent of $450, which includes, 

transport and accommodation only 

• Note: As it’s a College sanctioned camp - alcohol free

Primary Development Camp 

• Parents have options for ski, lift, lesson and / 

or rental packages at additional expense. 

• Possibility of extending student lessons. 

• Final costs and details to be finalised pending 

numbers – so please book and pay $200

Victorian Interschools SnowSports 

Championships 

August 26 – 31, 2012.


Championships 

• It is about fun, having a go, challenging yourself. 

• Students are only needed on the mountain for the day (s) of their 

event(s) 

• Competitors should be able to comfortably ski a green run 

• Parents are responsible for their child(ren) at all times 

• Teaching staff on Mountain to coordinate 

• Parent / Student responsible for own transport, accommodation 

• Students do not need to have done a development camp 

• FOSS can help with finding accommodation, please book ASAP 

• Parents are needed to help marshall / officiate 

• $100 registration and entry fee, please book and pay via

• Division 1 Years 11 and 12 




• Division 5 Years 4 and under

The Interschools Snowsports Championships are a series of 

competitions in 7 disciplines: 

• Alpine GS - Skiers are timed on a modified giant slalom 

course 

• Skiercross - Skiers are timed on a slope style course 

• Freestyle Moguls - Skiers are scored on a bumps/jumps 

course 

• Snowboard GS - Boarders are timed on a modified giant 

slalom course 

• Snowboardcross - Boarders are timed on a slope style 

course 

• Cross Country Classical - Raced classic cross country skis, 

with a mass start 

• Cross Country Relay - 3 Person Relay team only event

• Suggesting accommodation options 

• A new social program for skiing and non-skiing parents at Interschools 

• Help publicise the snowsports program at the Community Day Fair on 17 

March.
