GURU POURNIMA - Sai Samsthan: USA

Havan or Homam or Yajna, a form of worship and
sacrifice, is one of the most central Hindu concepts. It
is a ritual especially prevalent in Vedic times, in which
oblations- ghee, grains, spices and exotic woods- are
offered into a fire according to scriptural injunctions
while special mantras are chanted. The element fire,
Agni, is revered as the divine messenger who carries
offerings and prayers to the Gods. Yajna requires four
components, none of which may be omitted: Dravya,
sacrificial substances; tyaga,the spirit of sacrificing all
to God;devata, the celestial beings who receive the
sacrifice; and mantra, the empowering word or chant.
Sri Sainatha Stavan Manjari Stotra - this stotra was
written by Ganapati Dattatreya Sahasrabuddhe alias
Das Ganu Maharaj, one of the staunch devotees of Sri
Sai Baba on September 9th 1918, the Ganesh Chaturthi
day on the banks of the river Narmada just thirty
six days before the Maha Samadhi of Baba. When Das
Ganu recited this Stotra in front of Baba, Baba approvingly
nodded His Head and blessed that any devotee
reading this with complete faith and devotion would
be cured of all the afflictions. A small portion of this
Stotra comprising of eight slokas is called ‘Prarthanashtakam’
and is recited at the mandir everyday after
the regular holy bath and archana. Even devout listening
of this Stotra would bestow spiritual and material
comforts.
Shankha Puja & Abhishek - according to the Vedic
scriptures, the Shankha is one of the most sacred objects
that emerged from the sea during the Ksheera Sagara
Manthan – churning of the Milky Ocean. Hence,
it is regarded as the brother of Goddess Lakshmi, the
ruler of wealth. Most of the Gods and Goddesses such
as Vishnu, Lakshmi, and Dattatreya, hold the Shankha
in their hands. Shankha is one of the nine objects –
Nava Nidhi - of Kubera, who is the Lord of wealth.
Full moon, New moon, Ekadasi, Thursdays and Fridays
are the propitious days for Shankha worship.
Rathotsav - Ratha is a mobile Temple or Mandir.
Traditionally, the Deity is taken in procession in the
Ratha,to provide an opportunity to have the Lord’s
darshan for those devotees, who are unable to come
to the Mandir for Lord’s darshan. According to Upanishad,
“Rathe Twaam Gamana Drishtva Punarjanma na
Vidyate”meaning whoever sees Ratha in motion, has
no rebirth.
