Security Watch Effort Wins Silver<br />
The <strong>Shipyard</strong> Security Watch Group<br />
initiative, a joint effort by <strong>Jurong</strong><br />
<strong>Shipyard</strong>, <strong>Jurong</strong> West NPC and two other<br />
yards, was singled out for silver from 280<br />
nominated projects in the South West<br />
District Community Safety and Security<br />
Programme (CSSP) Awards 2005.<br />
The award, which recognises outstanding<br />
community projects that enhance security<br />
and safety within the district, was presented<br />
to the various representatives of the watch<br />
group during a ceremony held at The<br />
Chevrons on <strong>May</strong> 7, 2005.<br />

Key members in our security watch team<br />
The <strong>Shipyard</strong> Security Watch Group was<br />
officially launched in November last year as<br />
a proactive measure against terrorism.<br />
Working closely with the police, <strong>Jurong</strong><br />
<strong>Shipyard</strong>’s Security Watch Group regularly<br />
conduct joint patrols and evacuation<br />
exercises, with the active involvement of<br />
security and safety personnel, to heighten<br />
collective vigilance within the yard.<br />
Having achieved silver at the district level,<br />
the <strong>Shipyard</strong> Security Watch Group project<br />
will qualify for the upcoming National Level<br />
CSSP Award in July.<br />

Learning Visit by<br />
Overseas Students<br />
A group of 30 overseas students from the Senior Executive<br />
Masters Programme from the University of Tennessee,<br />
United States, came by the yard for a learning visit on<br />
<strong>May</strong> 27, 2005.<br />
To give the visitors a better understanding of the Group’s marine<br />
and offshore business, senior management from SembCorp<br />
Marine and <strong>Jurong</strong> <strong>Shipyard</strong> delivered a series of presentations<br />
on the group’s global operations and integrated expertise in<br />
ship repair, shipbuilding, ship conversion, rig building and<br />
offshore engineering. The session also saw an interactive<br />
exchange of ideas, as visitors and hosts engaged in a meaningful<br />
time of discussion and sharing.<br />
Comrade of<br />
Labour Award<br />
Congratulations to Mr CV Nathan on receiving the Comrade<br />
of Labour Award for his significant contributions to harmonious<br />
union-management relations within the yard.<br />
The award, conferred by the National Trade Union Congress, was<br />
presented by Mr Lim Boon Heng, NTUC’s Secretary General and<br />
Minister, Prime Minister’s Office, during this year’s <strong>May</strong> Day Dinner.<br />
Currently the Vice-President and Branch Secretary of Shipbuilding<br />
and Marine Engineering Employees' Union (SMEEU), <strong>Jurong</strong><br />
<strong>Shipyard</strong> Branch, Nathan has been actively involved in union work<br />
since 1971. He was instrumental in laying the foundations for<br />
strong union-management synergy, whilst serving as the house<br />
union’s first president in 1982.<br />
