“I Care” Safety Campaign
As part of ongoing efforts to achieve a zero-incident rate within the yard, Jurong Shipyard
organised a week-long safety campaign from May 12 to 17, 2005 to further enhance employees’
safety awareness.
With the theme “I CARE – Working Towards
Zero Incident”, the campaign aimed to further
encourage personnel to adopt a proactive
attitude towards safety by exercising CARE
(Commitment, Awareness, Recognition and
Evaluation) in preventing incidents at work.

The campaign’s launch on May 12, 2005
was officiated by Guest-of-Honour Mr Tan
Pui Guan, Divisional Director of Occupational
Safety and Health, Ministry of Manpower.
To reaffirm their concerted commitment to
achieve safety excellence and zero incident,
employees, subcontractors and customer
partners participated in a pledge-taking and
signing ceremony, led by Jurong Shipyard’s
senior management, including Chairman
Mr Tan Kwi Kin, Managing Director Mr
Wong Weng Sun and Executive Director
Mr Lee Yeok Hoon.

Launch of Safety Diary
The event also marked the official launch of
the Safety Diary, a user-friendly handbook for
supervisors and personnel containing essential
information on in-house safety rules,
regulations and procedures. Employees and
stakeholders were further acquainted with “I
CARE – The JSPL Way of Safety” through
presentations delivered by Safety Department
Manager Mr Richard Tuan and Section
Manager Mr Derrick Chin.

and technical expertise to protecting the
lives of those who work around us
including partners and stakeholders.
2. I will always promote safe work practices
in the yard and onboard vessels at
all times.
3. I will always lead by example in upholding
the safety rules and regulations of
the company.
4. I will do my best to achieve zero incident.
5. I will conduct my work in a responsible
manner conducive to a clean and
healthy environment.
6. I will ensure safe and sound system of
work to comply with local, international
and other legislation pertaining to
Health, Safety and Environment.
Sharing the “JSPL Way of Safety”
As part of this week-long campaign,
Jurong Shipyard also held smaller-scale
launches of the “I CARE” initiative across
various sections within the yard, along
with a series of workshops on “Hot-work
and Spray Painting” and “Risk
Identification” to enhance employees’
knowledge of safe work practices and
incident prevention.
