Showcasing Expertise at Nor-Shipping 2005
SembCorp Marine and its subsidiary yards – Jurong Shipyard, Sembawang Shipyard
and PPL Shipyard – showcased to great success its range of integrated expertise during
Nor-Shipping 2005, a premier trade show for the global shipping industry, which took
place from June 7 to 10, in Oslo, Norway.
The Group was part of the 15-exhibitor strong
delegation forming the Singapore Pavilion,
organised by the Singapore Maritime
Foundation (SMF). This year’s show had a
record turnout with 13,429 visitors and 820
exhibitors from 39 countries, comprising
some of the world’s leading shipyards,
maritime equipment manufacturers and
service providers.
There to promote Singapore as a gateway
to Asia, Mrs. Lim Hwee Hua, Minister of
State for Transport and Finance, was one
of the invited guests who opened both the
exhibition and pavilion. She was also a
keynote speaker at the opening conference
on 8 June, 2005.
A steady stream of ship owners, agents and
suppliers visited the 36m 2 SembCorp Marine
Some of SCM’s representatives (from L to R): Ms Wee
Kwee Kheng (Asst GM, Business, SSPL), Ms Judy Han
(Senior VP, IR & Communications, SCM), Ms Wong Lee
Lin (ED & GM, SSPL), Mr Ong Tian Khiam (MD, PPL), Mr
Hui Kin Wai (Manager, Offshore, JSPL), Mr Tey Chin Tiong
(Asst GM, Commercial, JSPL) and Mr Tan Kim Yung
(Marketing Manager, PPL).
Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, Minister of State for Transport and Finance, interacting with SCM’s representatives at the booth
booth during those four days. The event
provided many opportunities to strengthen and
expand the current network of partnerships as
well as build new relationships. Long
partnerships, some over 30 years old, were
once again renewed during the exhibition. New
friends were also made amongst other
customers, shipyards, and suppliers from all
over the world.
Working together, the three sister yards also
explored new ways of collaboration in enabling
SembCorp Marine to synergise strengths and
offer more value to customers.
The exhibition ended on Friday, June 10, 2005
and was a success for SembCorp Marine and
her shipyards. The Group looks forward to
participating in the next Nor-Shipping exhibition,
which will be held in 2007.
Networking in Norway
While the exhibition was a good chance to introduce
SembCorp Marine’s services to the global market, the four-day
event was also an opportunity to renew old partnerships and
make new friends. The SembCorp Marine group of shipyards
played host to a series of private dinner parties to build
bonds and strengthen the network in Norway and Europe.
6.6.2005 ● Sembawang Shipyard organised a dinner onboard a yacht for their
Norwegian alliance partners and other customers.
7.6.2005 ● PPL Shipyard hosted an exclusive dinner on Anders Wilhelmson AS’
private island for its Norwegian customers. The Guest-of-Honour Mrs.
Lim Hwee Hua was accompanied by Maritime and Port Authority of
Singapore (MPA) Chief Executive BG Tay Lim Heng, Chairman of
SMF Mr. Teo Siong Seng, as well as other delegates from the Ministry
of Transport and MPA.
● A Chinese dinner was organised by Sembawang Shipyard to strengthen
relationships with their fleet manager clients.
8.6.2005 ● A highly successful Singapore Night, hosted by the SMF and Mr. Svein
Aaser, Singapore’s Honorary Consul-General to Norway (Oslo), was
held in honour of Minister of State Mrs. Lim Hwee Hua at the Hotel
Continental in central Oslo. With a turnout three times more than
expected, the cocktail reception provided the Singapore companies,
including SembCorp Marine, a platform to meet their customers, partners
and suppliers and get to know each other better.
9.6.2005 ● A dinner was hosted by Jurong Shipyard’s agent Norship Agencies for
Jurong, and other European yards under their care. The dinner
celebrated longstanding partnerships and was a chance to discuss
current issues in shipyard management.
Forging strong connections – Ms Judy Han and Mr Don Lee, JSPL’s Senior GM of Offshore, with
Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, Minister of State for Transport and Finance, and partners from Norway
