D5 Annex WP 4: ETIS DATABASE METHODOLOGY AND DATABASE USER MANUAL – PASSENGER DEMAND Indicator Compilation Template No. 1 Ref. 3.1.2 Definition ETIS Glossary Actual air traffic throughput divided by capacity Airport = A defined area on land or water (including any buildings, installations and equipment) intended to be used either wholly or in part for the arrival, departure and movement of aircraft. Computation Method (Formula) Maximum (PT i /T i ; M i /R i ) Passenger = Any person, excluding onduty members of the flight and cabin crews, who makes a journey by air. Terminal passenger = Total of terminating and transfer passengers. Terminal capacity = Maximum terminal throughput, or flow rate, which can be achieved over a sustained period of time, in accordance with safety standards and recommendations, and with an acceptable maximum delay for a limited period of time Aircraft movement = An aircraft takeoff or landing at an airport. For airport traffic purposes one arrival and one departure is counted as two movements Runway capacity = Maximum runway throughput, or flow rate, which can be achieved over a sustained period of time when aircraft operate under IFR, under specific traffic mix, in good weather conditions, with good ATM/runway system management, in accordance with safety standards and recommendations, and with an acceptable maximum delay for a limited period of time (note: each quotient PT i /T i and M i /R i is an interesting indicator itself; The definition of this specific supporting indicator takes the maximum of both quotients, because this indicates how “packed” an airport is.) 72 Document3 27 May 2004
