D5 Annex WP 4: ETIS DATABASE METHODOLOGY AND DATABASE USER
MANUAL – PASSENGER DEMAND
of selling airline tickets, took a long time of negotiations, which will be finalised until the
second week in May 2004.
· Ferry Statistics: STATISTICS from shippax (Sweden) is the annual complete source of
gathered statistics from all the major ferry and cruise operators. Not only will we compile
traffic figures from all routes and companies, but also compare major ports and publish
totals of the trade.
5.3 Data gaps observed
As the data sources are in house beside two items (see 5.2.) the gaps observed can be listed here.
· The IATA flight stage and origin destination databases does not reflect all transported
passengers due to not all airlines are reporting and the data availability varies according to
the specific route, as not every airline which reports in general does this without any gaps.
· The EUROSTAT data concerning air transport do not cover all routes and airports up to
now, as the legal period until all airports with a passengers amount of 300.00 p.a. and
more are obliged to report to EUROSTAT will last until 2005
· The Dateline data is lacking quality for the generation and distribution modelling which
has to be corrected by socio economic factors.
· The Eurostat transport statistic is not complete and equally detailed for all modes.
· The UNECE data just monitor the major roads which is not necessarily the set chosen by
the travellers. Some important link counts are missing for connecting all the NUTS 3 and
2 centroids.
5.4 Required data being collected in other ETIS reference database work
packages
The following figure displays the interrelationship of WP4 with the other work packages of the
ETIS reference database project. Data requirements are described in the following sections.
