D5 Annex WP 4: ETIS DATABASE METHODOLOGY AND DATABASE USER
MANUAL – PASSENGER DEMAND
(and corridors) are represented in the data above all in proportion to their popularity as
destinations for work, private, and holiday travel from origins within the EU and Switzerland.
Until parameter estimates are available from residents of these countries, the DATELINE
parameters will have to be used as a first approximation.
The goal for the test phase of ETIS is the enrichment of DATELINE with the generalised costs
of the chosen and nonchosen alternatives, enrichment with socioeconomic data, the
aggregation of DATELINE to the appropriate NUTS level, and the calculation of the
destination/mode choice parameters. While the enrichment of the DATELINE dataset with the
nonchosen transportation modes will take more time, notably the application of the Hafas
search engine to find train services available to the travellers, an estimation of the parameters
using a not completely described set of alternatives is possible in the near future. The test could,
for instance, be limited to priority TEN routes. A DATELINE OD matrix on NUTS 1 level is
already available for tests of the calibration of the synthetic ETIS matrix during the test phase.
This matrix has 110 origins and destinations (including 30 external zones), calibrated with
MYSTIC, and exhibits the low trip rates characteristic of DATELINE, but could be calibrated to
match the available counts initially.
