what are the steps to applying to adfa?
1. Enquiry
If you make an initial enquiry to 13 19 01 or submit an online
enquiry form via www.defencejobs.gov.au/adfa you’ll be sent
information relating to ADFA and the ADF. You can also book
directly (calling 13 19 01) into a Your Opportunities Unlimited
(YOU) Session that is held at your local Defence Force
Recruiting Centre. You will be sent application forms, which
you will need to complete and bring with you to the session
where you’ll undergo the following:
2. Aptitude Testing
To make sure you can handle the intellectual and training
demands of ADFA, you’ll undertake aptitude testing. An ADF
Careers Counsellor will explain what to expect.
3. Medical Fitness Assessment
You’ll then be checked out by an ADF Doctor to ensure you
meet the fitness and health standard required for selection and
entry into the ADF.
4. The Interviews
After passing the aptitude interview and medical assessment,
a Psychologist and a member of the ADF will interview you
about your education, employment history, family, lifestyle,
hobbies, sports interests and your reasons for joining.
The interview takes half a day and really isn’t as daunting
as it sounds.
5. The Pre-entry Fitness Assessment
You must pass a Pre-Fitness Assessment (PFA) before entry.
This may be conducted when you complete your medical and
aptitude tests or on another day. Your ADF Careers Counsellor
will advise you in advance to bring along running shoes, t-shirt,
shorts, a towel and toiletries.
6. Officer Selection Board
Once you pass the first three stages, your ADF Careers
Counsellor will recommend you be invited to appear before
an Officer Selection Board (OSB). This includes a four-day trip
to Canberra where the Selection Boards and a tour of ADFA
are conducted. The selection criteria takes into account
things like your presentation, maturity, leadership potential,
communication skills, educational potential, vocational
compatibility and much more. In some instances, you will be
placed in competition with other applicants and will be notified
of your success at the OSB at a later date. Acceptance into
ADFA is then dependent on your final Year 12 results and
successful admission into UNSW.
7. University Application
Once you make it through the OSB selection process, you will
need to submit an application to the Universities Admission
Centre (UAC) in NSW, listing your UNSW@ADFA degree as
your number one preference. If you are successful and meet
the ADFA admission requirements, Defence Force Recruiting
and the Universities Admissions Centre will contact you in
relation to accepting your offer into ADFA. You will then need
to advise Defence Force Recruiting of your intent to accept
the offer.
eligibility
To apply, you should be in at least Year 11 at school, and
undertaking a tertiary package or have completed Year 12 with
an entrance rank that will qualify you for entry into UNSW.
You must also be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
of Australia. Other admission conditions apply.
