With a great upheaval Jewel scrambled to his feet and po<strong>in</strong>ted with his horn.<br />

WHAT NEWS THE EAGLE BROUGHT<br />

IN the shadow <strong>of</strong> the trees on the far side <strong>of</strong> the clear<strong>in</strong>g someth<strong>in</strong>g was mov<strong>in</strong>g. It was<br />

glid<strong>in</strong>g very slowly Northward. At a first glance you might have mistaken it for smoke,<br />

for it was grey and you could see th<strong>in</strong>gs through it. But the deathly smell was not the<br />

smell <strong>of</strong> smoke. Also, this th<strong>in</strong>g kept its shape <strong>in</strong>stead <strong>of</strong> billow<strong>in</strong>g and curl<strong>in</strong>g as smoke
