48 N E W S Pendennis Cup 11 – 17 August, Falmouth, England The British shipyard Pendennis and the Port of Falmouth Sailing Association have combined forces to organise a new regatta for classic superyachts: the Pendennis Cup, which will be sponsored by Burgess. This event looks set to put Falmouth back on the superyacht map by reviving a long tradition of racing in the town’s deep water bay. This will be a rare chance to see some legendary classic sailing yachts in action. Those already planning to attend this summer include Lulworth, the largest gaff cutter in the world, the Fife Bermudan cutter Cambria, the 19m gaff cutter Mariquita and the schooner Mariette, built in 1915. This glittering event took place in the former Benedictine Monastery buildings of the Fondazione Giorgio Cini on San Giorgio Island (right opposite St Mark’s Square and the Doge’s Palace) and was attended by the world’s premier yacht owners, designers, naval architects, shipbuilders and commentators. Burgess CEO Jonathan Beckett hosted a table that was in celebratory mood by the end of the night, with a spectacular haul of awards and commendations for yachts across our brokerage, charter and operational management portfolio. In particular, T6 swept the board, winning Best Displacement Motor Yacht in her class and going on to win Best Motor Yacht overall.
