Quest Global Impact Awards 2014-2015
Global Visiting Scholar Award
The Global Education Office is pleased to announce the next cycle of the Quest Global Impact
Awards. This program will fund proposals from academic units to develop new and innovative
programming in support of internationalization goals at Virginia Commonwealth University as
expressed in Quest for Distinction:
“In the long history of
humankind (and animal
kind, too) those who
learned to collaborate
and improvise most
effectively have
prevailed.”
- Charles Darwin
^^
Recruit and retain highly qualified students from other countries.
^^
Provide high impact learning experiences for students in a global environment
^^
Contribute to research, scholarship, creative expression and clinical practice in a global context
The GEO/QGI Global Visiting Scholar Award is intended to support departments or schools that
host an international scholar for a semester or academic year who will contribute to enriching
the learning and scholarship of the unit. Preference will be given to proposals that include plans
for high impact student experiences, or research collaborations with specific outcomes, such as
important publications and/or, external funding proposals. While no fixed number of the awards
has been set, we anticipate awarding four grants sufficient to cover airfare and housing. Hosting
units contribute towards and provide office space and equipment. The final number and amount
of awards will depend on the merits of each proposal as determined by reviewers.
These awards are not intended to fund one-time events, attendance at professional meetings,
equipment purchases or other expenses typically covered by existing budgets.
The completed proposal should be received by the Global Education Office by
Monday, March 10, 2014 at 4:30 p.m. Completed proposals can be submitted electronically to
geo@vcu.edu and/or in hard copy to 817 W. Franklin Street, Room 124. Awards will be announced
by March 17, 2014. Award recipients agree to provide a final report at end of award period and to
provide promotional credit to the Global Education Office. Questions should be addressed to
R. McKenna Brown, Executive Director, Global Education Office, (828-8471, mbrown@vcu.edu).
The criteria for evaluating proposals include:
