and those who do
not travel read only
one page.”
The GEO/QGI Departmental Study Abroad Program Award is intended to support departments
or schools that seek significant increases in study abroad participation through new programming
integrated into departmental curricula in ways that promote academic and financial sustainability.
Priority will be given to units not yet offering established opportunities for their majors. Successful
programming will articulate with the academic program so that students can participate without
increasing the amount of time necessary to graduate. While no fixed number of the awards has been
set, we anticipate awarding four grants of approximately $20,000 each. The final number and amount
of awards will depend on the merits of each proposal as determined by reviewers.
Successful applicants will participate spring semester 2014 in a learning community providing guidance
and support in project development.
These awards are not intended to fund one-time events, attendance at professional meetings,
equipment purchases or other expenses typically covered by existing budgets.
The completed proposal should be received by the Global Education Office by
Monday, January 13, 2014 at 4:30 p.m. Completed proposals can be submitted electronically to
geo@vcu.edu and/or in hard copy to 817 W. Franklin Street, Room 124. Awards will be announced by
February 3, 2014. Award recipients agree to provide final report at end of award period and to provide
promotional credit to the Global Education Office. Questions should be addressed to
R. McKenna Brown, Executive Director, Global Education Office, (828-8471, mbrown@vcu.edu).
