The new cupboards in the kids room has been installed, it is looking great. If any one
has a play station or X-box they no longer use, we would love the obtain it (It has to be
in good working order). We are also looking for children’s DVD’s. If you have anything
that you think, would be great for the play room, we would love to hear from you.

News from the Danish Folkdance Group ‘Heimdal” Inc.
After a well earned break through December and January the Danish Folkdancers met
again to start a whole new year of dancing in the Danish Club, happy and refreshed.
As always our dance year commenced with an Annual General Meeting and election of
office bearers. True to form we did all of that on Friday 1 February 2008 and with Lis and
Tom Larsen leading us we are now ready to conquer the dance floor yet again.
Slightly more structure has been brought to our dancing this year as Lis will attempt to
teach us new dances at the beginning of each of our Friday evenings and only after the
most important event, the coffee break, (sorry Lis), do we dance our most favourite and
older dances which we know by heart. New dances can sometimes equal brainteasers, but
we soldier on with Lis at the helm and will have much fun in the months to come.
Last year a group of our dancers went to New Zealand and participated in the biannual
Scandinavian Gathering in Christchurch. There is a Danish folkdance group in Auckland who
has visited us here in Brisbane and they met up with our dancers of course and much
dancing and dining was participated in as well as partaking in the organised festivities
during the Gathering.
In 2009 two trips are in the planning stages for our group, as ‘Nordlek’, the Scandinavian
Festival of Folkdancers is being held in Finland, and there is much interest amongst the
Group’s members to attend. In the summer of 2006 some of our dancers went to Sweden
and attended “Nordlek” there and had a fabulous time.
The other event coming up in 2009 and will create a lot of planning too, is the Biannual
Festival in New Zealand, this time held in Auckland, where interested folkdancers from our
Group will also attend.
We celebrated our 15 th year as a folkdance group last year in August and arranged a great
party to commemorate the occasion. We all love our folkdancing, but also the wonderful
social aspects of it.
It could probably also be proven scientifically that we lose weight doing Danish folkdancing,
it is certainly vigorous enough, but we will keep that to ourselves!
