‘Cooking without borders.’
We fashion our way of cooking by sourcing
the freshest ingredients from our local
countryside. Cooking without borders, we
let the world's cultures assist in shaping
the creations from our kitchen.
We are consistently visiting nearby farms,
in order to educate ourselves about our
native produce. Knowing the environment
and conditions in which our ingredients
grow and thrive, assists us in preparing
the best possible dishes for our customers.
We are nestled between Historic Old Bellevue
and the thriving new city center. The
interiors are inspired by Nordic and Parisian
styles, brought together to create a
casual elegance. 99 Park is the formula
for a “good time” restaurant, where upbeat
music plays, thoughtful food is created,
cocktails are crafted and glamour is seen.
"The way one presents and carries
DIRECTOR’S LETTER
Penis. Now you say it loud in
a public place. Did you ever
play that game when you were
younger or maybe as an adult?
Whoever said it loudest won.
Or did just reading the word
make you feel uncomfortable?
I would hope not considering
you should have learned in
sex education that every man
possesses one so what is wrong
with acknowledging it? Without
one, you wouldn’t be reading
our latest issue because you
would have never been born. Even years after sex has become more
publicized online, in movies, video games and cable, it is still taboo
to have an open conversation about it and double standards still
exist. In the 2013 “Sex” Issue, I expressed sex was my favorite thing
and still get comments about it. Why? Because when it comes to
women speaking about sex, they can be considered promiscuous,
even in this city that has been considered one of the top cities for
casual sex. Now, if a man had written that would it have been so
surprising? Most likely not, but it doesn’t bother me because who
cares what people think? Everyone is going to make assumptions,
not everyone is going to like you and not everyone going to take
the time to get to know you.
These lessons can be learned right from the words of this issue.
We have some amazing people this year from our decibel to
distinct section. All of them are inspiring in their own way and
I recommend you read each and every one. DJ Rhiannon (pg.
28) was one of my favorite interviews I’ve done thus far. She
was amazing to talk to. She is proud to be able to express herself
sexually through her music and she should. She’s hot, intelligent
and talented and she owns it. The Chainsmokers (pg. 26) have hit
“top sexy” lists – they are sexy and know it. Their confidence is
shown with every unique and original show they put on and their
fans love it.
But it’s not looks that make someone sexy; it’s confidence (not
to be confused with arrogance). All the girls in our Cover Girl
competition (pg. 56) wouldn’t be in this issue if they didn’t use
possess that. Remy wouldn’t have made cover if she didn’t rock
it, but she did and you can see that as did everyone else that
supported her. Each of the seven people in our annual people
list (pg. 32) are sexy in their own way, but all of them possess
confidence along with being grateful, humble, humorous and kind
that has led them to success. But what’s sexiest of all is their passion
for the things they do and making sure to unselfishly give it back to
their own community, friends and mentors.
Sexiness is attractive. Attraction is what connects people to each
other. That connection is what makes two people want to sleep
together. Sometimes two people can have such a strong sexual
energy that they know it and everyone around them does too. How
many times have you said or heard, “I don’t understand why they
don’t just get together already?” So why hold back from something
will make them feel good? Usually it’s fear. What if something that
feels so good ends up hurting me? In correlation the same goes
for food. What if indulging in something that tastes makes us fat?
What if we don’t like it? What if it doesn’t look good, but other
people say it is? Well we found a lot of food that we think is good in
our annual “Food Porn List” (pg. 12) and some that you may think
is even better than sex. So live a little and indulge, your taste buds
will thank you for it.
I hope this issue has made you see that sex is something to talk
about in more ways than one. If this doesn’t help you see how good
sex can be than you’re probably not doing right so hopefully it will
at least help you learn. Own your hotness Seattle.
“What makes a man sexy is someone that can make you laugh, is
intelligent, passionate, and respects every aspect of you”
THE BIG APPLE
INSIDER’S LOOK
Written by Lauren Adam Photos courtesy Capitol Cider
They say that an apple cider a day is the best way to remain in good
health, which makes Capitol Cider a public house style safe haven.
A rich, warm candle lit dining room offers an ambient voyage into
another time – a time where the apple would much more likely end
up in a barrel of cider than eaten. With twenty cider taps that rotate as
often as every two weeks, a bottle store hosting a daunting amount
of cider varieties, and a subtly apple infused, 100% gluten free menu
by Chef Autumn Swenson, the apple’s versatility is in full swing. From
live music like the weekly Sunday Night Jazz Flights, to 2nd Thursday’s
“Drink and Draw,” and Seattle chef paired 6-course Cider Dinners, there
are countless reasons to pop up on the hill and grab the local specialty.
This is a perfect place to take a first date, or just spy on one from the
other end of the bar. Go with friends and play shuffleboard downstairs
at The Ballast Bar or just stop by the bottle room and get something
to-go. Don’t be surprised if Capitol Cider becomes the next apple of
your eye.
Castañon Sidra Natural – Spain
The tradition of cider in Spain dates backs 3,000
DANCE VISIONARY DANCE PRODUCTIONS
THE ROMANCE IN DANCE
Written by Gagan Kaur Photo courtesy Visionary Dance Productions
At first glance, belly dancing could be intimidating
for anyone watching exotic women move their hips
in trance like motions as they transition in and out of
backbends. Yet despite popular misconceptions, the
dance isn’t erotic or sexual in any inappropriate way.
Seattle native, Delilah of Visionary Dance Productions,
explains it is a ceremonious ritual that creates a
spiritual bond between the dancer and spiritual self.
She is able to control every aspect of her body and
“It’s easy to assume
that belly dancing is
choreographed, but the
dance is more like Jazz.”
mind. The dance allows her to communicate and share
a spiritual connection between her and supporters.
To be able to understand the movement, one must
have a bit of insight on the creation of it. The dance
was created to increase a woman’s fertility. It is passed
down from generation to generation to their daughters
and granddaughters. It is primarily for women because
it’s about a woman’s connection to birth and life
focusing on the torso, breasts, and hips. A man can
participate, but he has to be able to get in touch with his
inner female self first.
From age five Delilah knew this would be her life
path. What is most valued in a dancer is someone
who studies technique and music and has developed
a character for when they perform. She started
by learning the Middle Eastern cabaret style and
revolutionized it by incorporating yoga, theater, and
personal growth therapy within her practice. She
has become known for her modern edge of altering
belly dance as an art that empowers women. It is the
differences in the style and approach that intrigues her.
Delilah explains that once the dancer learns to
control her body by isolating individual movements it
gives them a voice and a form of expression. “It’s easy
to assume that belly dancing is choreographed, but the
dance is more like Jazz.”
She says the dance is best in an intimate concert
setting. Sets can be twenty to forty-five minutes in
seven segments. “The time is important. It allows the
dancer to go into different states of consciousness or
zones physically and mentally. If she knows her craft
well, she will take the audience with her. You cannot do
that in a five-minute dance.”
People from all over America (and internationally)
have brought her to their hometowns to teach and
perform. Here in Seattle, Delilah opened up a home
studio with her husband, Steve, and made their
mission to encourage feminine empowerment. Their
creativity and spirituality have designed a welcoming
space for women of all ages, sizes, nationalities, and
walks of life. It has allowed her to teach in the greater
Seattle area along with preforming at weddings, baby
showers, parades and various public events. As she
continues to make her dancing impact in the city, she
has also expanded her creativity. Her costume and
clothing label, Madam D'z Dramatic Designs & Vintage
Acquisitions features custom made gowns and
costumes along with an extensive collection of vintage
nightgowns allowing women to not only express
themselves through dance but also through design.
DANCE LIKE AN EGYPTION
The first account of the belly
dance has been found in
ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics
where it was incorporated in
their historic timelines.
DANCE CLASS
COUNTRYWIDE MOVES
Belly Dancing is a combination
of movement from several
different countries.
These different styles are
from Lebanon, North Africa,
Egypt, Turkey and the Arabian
Gulf due to trade and shifting
boundaries. Many of the moves
are borrowed from nature,
especially from snakes.
DOES THE BODY GOOD
Exercising the abdominal area,
not just by rolling the belly, but
also by swaying the torso, helps
food move along the digestive
system making belly dancing
is especially good for this
purpose.
THE WILD WEST
The famous bra-and-belt
costume combo is a Western
invention. Original Middle
Eastern belly dancing costumes
covered the body, with only
a belt or a scarf tied around
the waist to emphasize the
movements.
DECIBEL CHAINSMOKERS
SMOKIN'HOT
Interview by Charity Mainville Photo by Steve Rosenfield
If you combine charm, humor, and confidence sprinkled with modesty on top, you end up with one irresistible
combination: Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall, a.k.a. The Chainsmokers, have been recognized as one of the hottest DJ
duos of 2014, both in looks and in skills. This shouldn’t come as a surprise with their first major hit, “#SELFIE,” hitting
No. 1 within five weeks. With the release of their latest track, “Kanye,” they keep on moving up, traveling around the
world, and putting on unforgettable shows.
26
CHAINSMOKERS DECIBEL
You were recognized in "The Top 10 Sexiest DJs of
2014" by onlythebeat.com and it’s not the first time
that it’s been said you are one good-looking duo, so
do you think you’re sexy?
CHAINSMOKERS: Umm, of course we do. We
realize it’s a nerdy sort of sexiness and almost selfdeprecating
in some respect, but we are confident,
which makes up for any shortcomings.
Which DJ would you pick as the sexiest?
CS: Jesse Ware, Gesaffelstein, Brodinski, Nervo Girls,
Eva Shaw, Jack Novak... just to name a few.
Do you have any stalkers? What has been your
craziest experience by a fan so far?
CS: Using the word “stalker” feels wrong because
it’s so great to have fans that are really passionate.
Stalkers to us are people that like jump the fence at
your house or send dead animals in boxes. We have
some awesome die-hard fans though that always
seem to know what we are doing, and it’s great. Drew
has one fan that goes by his last name and battles
other girls that compliment him on Instagram - that to
me is really funny. One girl on our “Drilldo” video was
sort of crazy and really wanted the “D.” She was nice,
but it was just over the top.
You have been playing in clubs that you were rejected
by before you blew up on the scene. How does it feel to
be playing at them now?
CS: I feel like everyone can relate to shit like this.
Nobody is worse than the club doormen; they are such
pricks so to be able to come back and just be like,
“excuse me sir.” It’s a nice feeling, but that’s life isn’t
it? Just overcoming BS, it always feels great. It’s never
really about the clubs or doormen.
If someone has never seen you play, what would you
tell him or her to expect?
CS: Patron in their eyes - that is probably a good thing
to expect and warn people about.
You have produced multiple remixes from indie to
progressive; what do you look for when choosing a
specific song?
CS: Sadly we don’t have as much time to remix songs
as we used to because we are really focused on
our own music right now, but generally we just really
have to love the song. It’s really cool to be a fan of a
song and then be able to put your own spin on it. Also
working with artists that are lesser known is how we
started and we try to maintain that vibe. It was cool
bringing exposure to artists that way and growing
together with them.
Was there a specific moment thus far that has made
you feel like, “Holy shit, we are kind of big deal?”
CS: Honestly, we haven’t had that moment. We are so
critical of ourselves and expect so much more out of
ourselves that we really never feel that way. We are
proud of our work and enjoy it, but we still have so
much we want to achieve.
You were chosen to headline EDM at Westgate’s
WaterDance Plaza Superbowl event; what was the
experience like compared to playing in megaclubs?
CS: It was awesome. We were sort of nervous
because it was raining and Arizona doesn’t do rain.
Also, we were competing with Alesso and Calvin
[Harris}, but the turnout was amazing and even more
so the crowd was so pumped. We don’t put so much
importance on that, if ten people showed up but they
were there to go nuts that would be all right by us!
What’s next on the hit list from you two?
CS: Just lots of music, we don’t think we have done a
good job of releasing enough of it, for one reason or
another, which we won’t get into. But excuses aside, we
are fixing that and plan to really have an exciting year.
A lot of people probably think they have a good idea of
what we are about musically, but we really don’t think
they have a clue and this will be our chance to prove
it. We also toured the entire world, like lucky fucks, and
DJ’d everywhere. It was awesome, but we want to raise
the bar, not just for us but also for our shows, and we are
working on some really cool ways to do that.
SHORT LIST
Boxers or Briefs: Boxer Briefs
Blondes or Brunettes: Blondes
The first thing that attracts me to a woman is: Wit… If a girl is witty it’s so sexy.
If we weren’t DJing, we would be: Ski Instructors
Biggest idol: Jared Leto, George Clooney, Keith Richards.
Top place to play at that you haven’t yet: South Africa and Coachella
Seattle is: The tits, we have played there twice and both times were some of the most memorable
experiences ever. Y’all know your music out there and party like us!
Seahawks or Patriots: Patriots, Drew’s from the Northeast, but not gonna lie, Beast Mode should have
been fed. I am still upset about that play call.
SEXY BEATS
Interview by Charity Mainville Photo by Odessy Barbu Styled by www.shopglamrock.com
DJ RHIANNON DECIBEL
Artistic ability is not easy to obtain, but Rhiannon has proven otherwise with her background as a lyricist, recording artist,
music video producer, rapper, actress, writer, MC and DJ. Her ear for the beat is apparent as she uses minimal technology in
her performances spinning vinyl-with-turntables and playing by ear. Combining that with her natural beauty and strong sex
appeal, she has been recognized by many as one of the world’s sexiest DJs and she’s not ashamed to show it.
You obviously have a passion for the arts, which one
of these professions would you say is your favorite?
RHIANNON: If I had to choose I would definitely say
DJing because of the performance aspect. I love
connecting to people directly and feel the music in
the moment. I’m forced into being present and it’s
exhilarating. It’s not about the limelight; it’s the energy
you feel from people.
Do you feel your looks benefit your career or holds
it back from being taken seriously in a “male”
recognized profession?
R: Definitely both aspects are true, but I didn’t
choose to be born a woman so I’m not going to treat
it as something to hold me back. I learned quickly
witnessing girls and models that have posed in
Playboy and others were getting DJ gigs and after
seeing them, were really not that great. I’ve played
vinyl for 8 years and my ears are really trained so I
deserve to be up there. I’m in entertainment. I’m an
entrepreneur. If I need to take my clothes off to get
where I need to be then I’m going to do it.
What is favorite thing to wear that makes you feel
sexy?
R: My smile. People think that it’s an esthetic thing,
but for me it’s energetic and something that makes a
connection.
You are very forward in your music and lyrics,
promoting sex and some may consider derogative
terms of women such as “Nasty Bitch” and “Like a
Slut.” Are these showcasing who you really are or
making a point of the double standard in society?
R: Definitely once again it’s both. I’m exposing
the double standard in society where the moment
we own our sexuality and objectification, we are
criticized for it. The reason I chose those words is
because there is so much negative connotation
with words like “bitch,” “slut,” “whore.” Reclaiming
my sexuality messes with people. If they want to
criticize or say I’m a whore, I can say, “Well yes I am.
I’ve already noted that.” It takes the power away
from these words. I’ve learned to take the power out
of them by normalizing them a little more, but they
still carry a lot weight. As in saying that’s who I am
really am, it’s true in a sense, but I know myself. I’m
very grounded, down to earth and a nice person. I’m
in a good position where I can express my sexuality
and inspire someone to do the same. Sexuality is a
part of every single one of us, whether we deny it or
not. We wouldn’t exist if two people didn’t have sex.
It’s how we entered the world. There’s this black and
white dichotomy that’s been created; you can either
be this sweet innocent virgin or dirty nasty whore.
Hopefully I embody both of those and show that
there is a grey area.
When did you come into your sexuality?
R: This answer is really cheeky, but I literally entered
this world through a vagina so female sexual power
was the first thing I ever learned about. In grade
3 and 4 I was already exploring my sexuality. My
neighbor and I would go into the paddling pool and
take our pants and be like “oh what do you have?”
But it was innocent sexuality that is natural. I had a
great childhood; my parents were never abusive to
me. My dad was absent because he worked a lot, but
my mom was wonderful. Sexuality has always been
there for all of us.
Has your music ever developed crazy fans? What
has been the craziest moment from a fan thus far?
R: Most of the time people just write me a lot. I’ll
respond, but not immediately because they think I
will respond again. I can’t sit at home all day writing
messages. I had one particular guy send me a dick
pic and then he felt ashamed of sending it. It was
funny because I don’t read my Facebook messages
every day so it piled it up a bit. So there was this
dick pic and then a message of “Oh my god I’m so
ashamed. I’m sorry I sent that to you.” Whatever,
there are vaginas and there are dicks; it’s not a big
deal. I told him it was okay, just no more. It inspired
me to write that song “Dick Pic,” which is a parody of
The Chainsmokers’ hit song, “#SELFIE.”
Some DJs have been mocked for only “pressing
play” with their laptops and using the benefit of
Serato. Do you feel this causes something to lack in
the DJ world today?
R: It’s such an intense topic because in an openly
www.DLISTMAGAZINE.com
biased way, yes, I do feel that. Not because, “Okay,
well I can do this so I expect others to do the exact
same thing.” There are a lot of bitter DJs out there
that do play vinyl and train their ears, but then
everything became super accessible and they
became shitty about it. So I could have had that
attitude too, but you need to adapt to conquer. This
is actually what inspired me to start writing lyrics,
making videos, and to become a DJ-rap artist. I’ve
paved my own lane in this profession that has gone
mainstream. One comment I will say is DJs should
be live. People get excited when they want to see
a singer, but when they lip-sync people get upset
because they could have listened to the album at
home. If it starts to become a hot topic for DJs and
venues start installing video cameras in booths
to see if they are actually DJing, it will change the
industry again. If we get upset because singers
lip-sync why shouldn’t we get upset when DJs beatsync?
Even though you play EDM, as most of the biggest
DJs do, you also play top-40, mash-ups and hip-hop.
Where do you see the music trending to next?
R: If I knew the exact thing I would be ahead of the
game, but we already can see this shift towards deep
house that’s become really popular over the last six
months. EDM is especially mainstream with big-room
house with big builds, huge drops and festivals.
Whenever there is an action, there is a reaction, so
people will eventually want the opposite thing. Deep
House is more consistent, intimate, funkier and
deeper.
What is the next thing on your agenda in music and
other career options?
R: I’ve decided that I want to affect and inspire
people to live happier with more personal freedom
and expression, may that be sexually or not. There
is so much confusion of life’s purpose and the
way to love and be loved. I feel like if I can make
a difference I really want to. I’ve had a couple of
moments where I wasn’t sure, but now I am shooting
a sizzle reel for a reality show. I’ve realized I need
to follow my heart, and it will be lead me to the next
thing I‘m suppose to be.
FRANCESCO YATES DECIBEL
YOUNG SOUL
Interview by Charity Mainville Photo by Jimmy Fontaine
When you first hear the rich and soulful voice of Francesco Yates, it will come as no surprise that he has been chosen as “An
Artist to Watch in 2015” and boasted about by multiple artists, including Justin Timberlake. His passion for songwriting and
appreciation of music started at a young age, but it wasn’t until age 11 that he was inspired to pursue a career after watching
School of Rock -- looking beyond the movie and feeling like that was real life for a musician, realizing he could do that as
well. Fast-forward to five years later, he has released two hit singles and completed his first album, collaborating with Robin
Hannibal and Pharrell, that is aimed to be released in fall 2015.
A lot of younger pop artists that grow quickly into the
public eye tend to have a hard time dealing with the
stardom. Do you think there is more pressure being
a younger artist? Does the “fame” concern you?
FRANCESCO YATES: For me, I was blessed to have
spent a lot of time with my management team and
label (Atlantic Records) developing my sound. I’m 19
now and I’ve been singed for over 3 years to a major
label. While that might seem like a lot of pressure,
I felt comfortable in taking my time to grow up and
talk about adult things and real life experiences.
I’m happy to have been granted that time. I wouldn’t
want to look back on my first single or record and
regret doing a song that may not transcend time. If
you give the idea of “fame” the time of day, it could
swallow you whole. If that’s what comes of music,
that’s something I will deal with when I get to that
place, but my main focus right now is to share a body
of work that I am proud of.
Your songs, “Call” and “When I Found You” have
romantic serenading lyrics; have you experienced
the relationships that you write and sing about?
FY: I definitely pour my experiences in my songs,
but there is no method I use every time I write. For
me, it’s all a matter of proper timing and being
open to letting the songs write themselves. It can
be triggered by anything from a sound to a scent. I
think the idea of love and heartbreak are things that
everyone has experienced, and using music as my
universal language, I’m sharing stories that people
can relate to.
Collaborating with music producers like Robin
Hannibal and Pharrell for your first album, what have
you learned from working them? Did they influence
the sound and direction you wanted to take with the
album?
FY: I learned a lot about my sound and myself during
the creative process. I think the big lesson I took
away with Robin Hannibal was the idea of creating
music that was both of the times and for the times.
I’m influenced by a lot of artists and music from
the 70’s time period. I had to find a way to combine
those influences into a sound that was uniquely me
and people my age could understand and enjoy.
www.DLISTMAGAZINE.com
Pharrell was a huge advocate for me playing the
electric guitar. I had walked away from playing after
the days of my progressive rock band when I was
12. I didn’t quite understand where the electric
guitar belonged in my pop music. He [Pharrell]
opened my world up on that level and taught me to
trust your first instinct. If you spend too much time
overthinking, you can and will ruin what naturally
came to you. For that reason, I only do a few takes
when I’m recording in the studio. If it isn’t happening
naturally, you can’t force it or otherwise it doesn’t
come across authentic.
Who would be the one artist that you would love to
share the stage with?
FY: Prince, he’s so incredible – the total package.
What’s so special about him is that during a time
when the dance/pop was so big with Madonna and
Michael Jackson, he made it cool to be a musician.
He is eccentric and beyond talented. I think I could
learn a lot from him and have an incredible time
performing with him.
DISTINCT DAN PRICE
Seattle is a mecca for entrepreneurs, what do you feel a company
needs in order to make them successful?
DAN PRICE: For me it was never about being an entrepreneur. It
was about helping and serving others. I was really passionate about
these independent business owners. It depends on how you define
success. I mean if you define success as owning your own company
and having financial success, I don’t believe that those are the true
measures of success. For me the true measure is being happy and
making an impact. For me I always think that serving others is the top
way to do that.
How did being featured on the cover of Entrepreneur Magazine come
about and how has the experience been since it's been released?
DP: I actually found out I was on the cover by someone texting it to
me after they had seen it at the airport. It has been a little bit crazy
since then. I get a request to do a speech or interview at least once
a day if not more. I am trying to appreciate it and enjoy it for what it is.
It creates a little bit more of a platform for my company, but I hope it
doesn’t change anything about me or who I am.
When you aren't working, what do you do to disconnect and enjoy
some free time?
DP: I love surfing, snowboarding, hiking and pretty much anything
active and physically challenging. I also like relaxing so I like yoga
too.
FORCE OF GRAVITY
Interview by Charity Mainville Photo courtesy Gravity Payments
Honesty and transparency are some of the notable traits Dan Price possesses
that have led him to success and the cover of the January 2015 Entrepreneur
Magazine and being named “Entrepreneur of the Year for 2014.” Along with
sacrifice, hard work and a reputation for having clients that believe a great
deal in him, he has given many reasons as to why he is worthy of such
honors. Price became an advocate for multiple independent business owners
and helped their companies reduce costs and headaches associated with
processing credit cards and after two years of hard work in this field he
established his company, Gravity Payments, officially in 2004. By enjoying the
process of working and giving all while having a team that works hard for
the vision, his company has grown immensely making over $150 million in
revenue and $10 billion in transactions. One of his of secrets to that success is
knowing that it is more about the journey than the destination.
You are definitely one of Seattle's most eligible bachelors, is it hard
to sustain a relationship and own a company?
DP: Yeah, one of the funny things is I will go on a date with someone
on like a Tuesday and it will go well. I am happy and thinking we
should go on another date and schedule something in a day or
two. But then something will come up work wise and working 16-hour
days. My brain gets foggy and I almost forget about everything else
that exists. I will forget about my parents, siblings and friends. Then
three days later it’s almost like I woke up from a dream, but everyone
else’s lives have kept going. At times it can be hard for people around
me. It is something that will evolve and change with time but for now I
really enjoy it.
What would be one trait a woman must have to make you interested?
DP: I would say it’s all about the motivation of the heart or the soul.
Are you most passionate about helping others and doing good or are
you more thinking about yourself? That is first and foremost. Also
what I look for with anyone in my life is emotional maturity, emotional
and physical well-being and physical health. Someone that is very
active and out there adventuring and getting the most out of life.
If you hadn't started the company, what do you think you will be doing
right at this moment?
DP: I think I would be working in the company; I love it here. If I hadn’t
started it I would have loved to be a part of what we are trying to do.
The only other job I have had was a professional musician in a fulltime
rock band. We were on tour all the time. We played rock music on
the radio nationwide. It was incredibly fun. Our largest show was for
5000 people and I miss it every day.
CHEFS KELLY AND KYLE CONNOR DISTINCT
TWO OF A KIND
Interview by James Zachodni Photo courtesy Can Can
Chefs Kelly and Kyle Connor have a lot in common. Well, quite literally as they are identical twin chefs currently heading up the
culinary program at the cherished Seattle landmark, Can Can. After years of being understudies at some of the city's most loved
restaurants, the twins are now in charge and are doing things their way.
First off, being identical twins, is there ever an issue with you being Kyle's “boss” in
the kitchen?
KELLY CONNOR: Being an identical twin has been a blessing in my life, and it has
been a great experience to work side-by-side with my best friend. Kyle and I have
worked in several restaurants together over the years and he has been my superior
in some cases. Our communication in the kitchen is short and sweet. We can read
each other’s minds! At the end of the day, if decisions need to be made, I make
them and Kyle respects them.
You guys pump out quite a bit of food with just the two of you in the tiny Can Can
kitchen, do you ever feel like you are confined or need more space and help?
KC: Working in a small kitchen can be a challenge but we make it work. It takes a
lot of organization, cleanliness, and teamwork.
You have worked in a lot of restaurants around the greater Seattle area. Which
kitchen do you think you found your personal style as a chef at?
KC: When I took the chef position at the Can Can I found the freedom I desired
to create new menus based on my style of cooking. It has been a fantastic
experience so far and I’m constantly pushing myself to raise the bar.
Are there any chefs out there that you look up to or consider mentors?
KC: Chef Austin Zimmerman and Chef Robin Leventhal were my mentors
when I worked at Stopsky’s Delicatessen and Local 360. They taught me the
fundamentals of cooking, developed my palate, encouraged my creativity, and
gave me the freedom to bring to life new dishes.
Do you have a signature dish that you are known for; whether at Can Can or
elsewhere?
KC: I’m recreating one of my favorite dishes for our new show, Flamingo, which
opens April 17th. It is braised short rib with demi-glace and colorful vegetables, It
combines comfort food and fresh ingredients from the Pike Place Market.
This is the “Sex Issue” so what is it that you think makes a dish “sexy?”
KC: Presentation! Contrast of colors, arrangement of ingredients, and the
explosion of taste when you take the first bite. I develop the dishes around the
theme of the show to compliment the performances. You have come to see a sexy
show. You should be served sexy food.
DISTINCT ANNY HAVLAND
Why produce an independent show verses becoming an anchor or producer with a
local news station?
ANNY HAVLAND: I didn’t want to be a news anchor. The news only reports on the
tragedies and that wasn’t my focus. I wanted to make a positive movement and
change within media and give the humanitarian side of news reports and actually
do something about it. I wasn’t a trained journalist or had any kind of professional
talent on camera, but I wanted to take this role on and put my vision into it. I wanted
to just be me – a typical girl who messes up her words and is far from polished. The
entertainment world might be one of the largest industries to convince to make a
change, but I felt I was the girl to do that.
The show has grown since then and has won multiple awards; did you expect it to
go this far?
AH: My initial coach down in California never thought that this show would make it,
but I wasn’t going to take any “no’s.” Seeing my determination she provided me with
a valuable tip – build my audience and they will come. This is what we have been
doing all organically. We’ve since won "Best Web-Series" and "Audience Choice
Award" in film festivals and have caught the eye of a network from our YouTube
channel. It feels good to know that others have my back and see the need for
change as well.
What do you think made your show more popular on the web verses other web
based shows?
AH: There are many popular web based shows and the majority of the ones with
high views are crazy and whacky. People like to see stupid things and shock factor
is the key. We were able to find shock factor in a positive way, which isn’t the easiest
but it’s doable, and I think this is what has helped our viewership.
Have you thought about expanding the show into other cities?
AH: We had some very big news come our direction towards the end of last year.
We were discovered through our YouTube channel by a network that offered us a
non-exclusive package to air our show nationwide. Our premiere was Jan 4 and
we instantly hit the top-six most viewed shows during our time slot, pretty amazing
news to hear.
THE IT GIRL
Interview by Charity Mainville Photo by Matty Photography
In 2010, Anny Havland was fed up with depressing and negative news
stories that were constantly aired and set forth to bring a change
of positivity with her own show, Talk It Up TV. Seeing an opportunity
in the video marketing niche, she started to teach herself editing
techniques. Anny then shared her concept for her show with many
people who ended up helping her and volunteering their time. After
two years of it being a fun side project, Anny realized this was her
purpose in life. After selling almost everything she had, including
her dream home, she hit the road and moved to Seattle in 2013 from
Bellingham to make her web based show a success.
34
This past October the show became a non-profit. What made you decide to
change it over and how will that make an impact on the show?
AH: Getting our 501C3 non-profit status has been the biggest blessing so far.
We’ve been mainly a two- person crew, Rick Walters and myself and now it has
allowed us to have a board of directors, more hands on deck allowing us the
opportunity to grow even more and people can now support our mission and
write it off on their taxes. It allows us to hold fundraising events to help us sustain
ourselves and give acts of kindness when deserved and needed. There is no longer
a limit to my sky.
What has been your favorite episode thus far?
AH: With each episode that we create, I tell myself this is my favorite. But one
would be the show about Grey Muzzle Rescue that was owned and operated for
ten years by Thayne and Chris Hamilton, until Chris tragically passed in 2013. They
specialized in adopting “un-adoptable” and severely abused dogs from all over the
nation giving them a forever home. It was Chris's dying wish that Thayne continue
the rescue work they lived and loved to do together and Thayne has done just that.
What is your ultimate dream for the show or simply for yourself?
AH: My vision is to impact the masses and get this show in households all over the
world to demonstrate that there is a need and a desire for a positive show. Current
TV programs are not helping our society one bit. They are not teaching our children
how to be good citizens and make sound decisions. Our children are our future so
let’s give them something good to follow.
SCOTT MAYER & ALEX NELSON DISTINCT
What is it about Budweiser that makes the product better than the rest that a
regular consumer may not know?
SCOTT MAYER: The average consumer doesn’t know how difficult it is to brew.
Budweiser is brewed using a blend of imported and classic American aroma and
bittering hops, a blend of barley malt and rice. The brewing process takes 30 days
includes the time-honored methods of “kraeusening” for natural carbonation and
Anheuser-Busch is the only major brewer in the world using Beechwood aging
as part of the brewing process to create its unparalleled balance, character and
signature crisp finish.
Which brand is your favorite and why?
SM: I love Budweiser. I have been lucky enough to see the brewing process first
hand of the finest ingredients available and the care and consistency of every
Budweiser produced.
ALEX NELSON: My favorite brand is Stella Artois. It’s a beer that not only has
history and heritage with the nine step pouring ritual and the chalice, but has a
great story and takes an active role in better world initiatives like the “Buy a Lady a
Drink” campaign.
Bud Light is the official sponsor of the NFL and the Seahawks, do you think that
makes a the brand more popular for Seattleites?
SM: I do think it connects the brand to Seahawks fans. We want to be the perfect
beer for Seahawks fans watching the game at home, tailgating, at the game,
and whatever happens next and they tremendously support with everything from
wearing jerseys, hats, pants, and anything else they can utilize with the Seahawks
logo. We are fortunate that our partnership allows us to brand the Seahawks logo
for perfect pairing in the hands of the fans.
SEATTLE BUDDIES
Interview by Charity Mainville Photo by Jessica Drake
What the craziest moment you have at a Seahawks game?
SM: I actually have two crazy moments at a Seahawks game both involving
the Green Bay Packers. The first was the catch by Golden Tate that is still
unbelievable. The other is the NFC championship victory and celebration that
ensued in the stadium and streets following. I have been fortunate to attend many
games over the years and that was the loudest and most emotional environment
at a sporting event I have ever attended. The last five minutes of the game was the
best time I have ever had at a sporting event.
If you asked yourself what’s one thing Seattleites love, it is a good
cold beer. Anheuser-Busch understands this in more ways than
one. Recently purchasing Elysian and 10 Barrel, the company
understands the importance of a good local micro brew. Its big
named brands, Budweiser and Bud Light also play a key part in
the city having sponsored some of Seattle’s biggest events and
being the official sponsor of the Seattle Seahawks. Some of your
favorite Seattle moments have happened because of these beers.
However, it takes a big team to put it all together led by two fine
gentlemen, Scott Mayer and Alex Nelson, who assure you always
have a good time. Scott manages a sales team that has nearly
2200 on-premise accounts and special events throughout Seattle.
Marketing Manager, Alex Nelson oversees all of the local event,
teams, venue sponsorships, on-premise trade programs and
social responsibility budgets. Besides working hard, these two
know how to have fun and if you ever get the pleasure of hanging
out with them it will definitely be unforgettable.
www.DLISTMAGAZINE.com
AN: There has been a ton of great moments over the last couple of years, but I’d
have to say Richard Sherman’s tip interception to Malcolm Smith last year against
the 49ers to seal the win and send us to the Super Bowl. The stadium was electric.
Anheuser Busch does a lot of different events from concerts to product tasting to
sporting events across the country. What has been your favorite event to attend
up to date?
SM: Attending the Kentucky Derby is my favorite event I have been to in the
last year. The races are secondary to all the activities that surround 165,000
attendees. The craziest rule is that infield attendees can bring as much beer as
they can physically carry, but can’t use a device with wheels. It’s amazing watching
the struggles of guys trying to carry 5 cases of Bud Light.
AN: I’m a local guy, so my favorite event would have been the Budweiser Made in
Seattle event that was part of the Made in American concert series.
What is one event in Seattle that all local should attend this year?
SM: Seafair is a must attend this year. It’s a Seattle tradition and the Blue Angels
are back again. Budweiser is proudly sponsoring this year and we look forward to
supporting the city and sharing great times with everyone.
DISTINCT SABA TEKLE
Raised in Seattle, Saba Tekle has faced her share
of troubles. Growing up with a criminal past, a near
death experience at age 19, followed by struggling
to balance between a spiritual and party girl life,
she finally discovered her calling in life to be a
writer, mentor and speaker. After years of learning
the publishing business she started her publishing
company, 7Publishing, and released her first book,
20 Beautiful Women, a collection of personal short
stories from twenty different inspiring women.
What encouraged you to become an author and write 20 Beautiful
Women?
SABA TEKLE: The original concept of the book was centered on
the experienced pains I had growing up. One of my deepest pains
was feeling alone and not being able to turn to anyone. Books by
authors like Debrena Jackson Gandy, Iyana Vanzant, Marianne
Williamson, to name a few, opened my eyes to healing and much
relief because of their courage and vulnerability to share those
things that I had once learned to keep secret. Had they not, I would
not be here and I was inspired to do the same.
How did you choose the women in the book?
ST: I looked for life coaches, mentors, and authors who had taken
their pains, healed from them, and then turned them into their
passion and purpose on social media. That is my definition of what
a beautiful woman is.
How did it feel once it hit the best seller's list?
ST: Shared success is the best success. I had previously been in
three books on the best-seller list, but it didn’t mean as much than
be able to share this experience with my co-authors. It was exciting
and fulfilling.
Besides a published author you are also a speaker and life coach.
What has been your most inspiring story of someone you have
helped?
ST: There are so many, but the story of Dawn Adams (Chapter
Four) was an incredible experience. I worked with her closely on her
story about her overcoming rape, molestation, and being in foster
care. She is one of the kindest women I’ve had the pleasure of
working with. Her becoming an author was a dream come true. She
was committed, so it was inspiring to watch her make that happen.
BEAUTIFUL
INSPIRATION
Interview by Charity Mainville Photo by Shay Woods
What would you say to young adults to inspire them to know they
can still turn their lives around?
ST: You’re not alone. You will be surprised that the people you
admire or aspire to be are just like you. Everyone is challenged in
life and fails at one time or another. But everyone can succeed in
their own way if they choose to heal from their past and find their
passion and purpose in life.
20 Beautiful Women can be purchased at any major retailer
MAMA TITS DISTINCT
THE
TITS
MCGEE
Interview by Jacob Utti Photo by Leanna Karg
Mama Tits is practically larger than
life – from her lavish eye makeup to
her long, black nails. She is the host of
Mimosas With Mama, Seattle’s longest
running drag brunch. A boisterous
performer, she’s currently transitioning
from traditional lip-synch drag to her
own singing and her first record is
already in the works. She regularly
hosts Lifelong AIDS Alliance’s gay
bingo night, which raises money for
people living with HIV and AIDS. Her
work with Lifelong is near and dear, as
Mama, a.k.a. Brian Peters, lives with
HIV and has for years.
How often are you dressed as Mama?
MAMA TITS: On a busy week it’s multiple nights, but
just because I’m not in drag doesn’t mean I’m not
working. I’m constantly producing my show, Mimosas
With Mama, and I have voice lessons once a week. I’m
transitioning now – to be honest, I’m a singer. I started
off as a professional opera singer but I walked away
from it and started partying way too much. Later on
I found drag and started doing that and I got back
on stage and it reminded me what I wanted to do:
entertain. When I was a kid I knew I would be famous. I
had all my stuffed animals lined up; I knew I was going
to be an actor or singer. Fast-forward to when I got
back on stage and I thought, “This is it!” But I started
to get really bored. I became really uninspired. I had a
lot of self-doubt. Then recently I started doing voice
training and there went my fire again!
There’s an iconic photo of you standing over a
protestor in the Seattle Pride Parade. You’re in full
drag as he’s scowling up at you, hateful sign in hand.
Your whole demeanor is saying, “You have no power
here!” and he looks tiny compared to you. Do you ever
revisit this photo?
MT: I do. Right after that day I could have died
happy. I could have dropped dead and known I did
something good. So whenever I feel down or less-than
or inadequate, I flip on the video and I get inspired.
We’ve reached 1.8 million Youtube views! I remember
thinking to myself when facing off against that guy,
“Whatever you say, be 100% accountable.” It was
when I called him a sad excuse for a human being
that I stopped – I was approaching a bad line – and
everything else I said with love.
www.DLISTMAGAZINE.com
I wanted to ask you about something difficult: you’re
very open about being HIV positive – what is that
challenge like?
MT: Well the pill, which I take every day, costs $2,000
a month and doctors visits can be upwards of
$60,000. But I’m lucky, my body responds really well to
the medication; other people aren’t always so lucky. I
want everyone who is HIV positive to realize they have
done noting wrong. I don’t give a fuck how you got
the disease, I want to know what you’ll do now. If we
can all work together, we can erase the stigma and
eradicate this disease, but the only way we’re going
to do that is by keeping the conversation going. I’d
be remiss if I didn’t mention my amazing husband. He
was there when I found out I was positive – the only
thing that broke the silence that day was him looking
at me and saying, “No matter what, we’ll get through
this together.”
DISTINCT JOSH ALTMAN
MILLION DOLLAR MAN
Interview by Charity Mainville Photo by Marc Angeles
Josh Altman of The Altman Brothers knows how to sell. Fans of the popular reality show, Million Dollar Listing on Bravo, see Josh selling homes
to high profile clients, celebrities and athletes. He has become the top-producing agent at Hilton & Hyland Brokerage with record breaking sales.
His passion for his career began 12 years ago when he moved to Los Angeles with his brother. Needing a place to live they put all their money
($10,000 total) together and bought a condo. They painted and improved their home with each paycheck at their minimum wage entertainment
company job. They decided to put it back on the market after only three months to see what it would sell for. They realized they were in the wrong
business when it sold for $200,000 more than the purchase price. Right then they made the choice to begin their new careers in real estate.
How did you maintain your success after the housing
market crashed seven years ago?
JOSH ALTMAN: The thing is I love what I do. I get
excited from the house to the deal to the people.
There are going to be low and high markets, but for me
success is all about being happy even when times are
tough. I always stuck to the original things that got me
to where I am today in that market. I spent those years
honing my skills, becoming an expert at what I do. It
was like a study time where I learned everything. Now I
don’t have one second to breathe during the day.
What is the one lesson that has made the biggest
impact in your life?
JA: The first thing was always to get everything in
writing. In business it’s hard to find people who are
100% loyal and going by someone’s word can change
real quick when it comes to money. Secondly, no
regrets; it’s all about looking at the good and bad
things as a learning experience. When the economy
crashed, I lost a lot money on a home. Instead of
letting it get me down, I took it as a lesson. I wasn’t
careful with my money thinking I would never lose,
which wasn’t a realistic mentality. Now I’m careful
38
about making sure there is an exit strategy.
Do you feel the show represents an accurate reflection
of your personality?
JA: Look I have an A-type personality; I’m super
aggressive. I will fight for my clients to the death and
treat them like it’s my own money. You don’t get to see
a lot of the home life or outside of work. I always get
told “you’re nicer in real life.” There's always going to be
people that love you or hate you. For me the show has
been such a success with my business that I take the
good with the bad.
Over the course of the show you've had so many
inspiring achievements, is there a moment that stands
out to you as a defining one?
JA: Selling the most expensive 1- bedroom in the
history of California, maybe in the country. The famous
Dick Zanuck 1-bedroom in Beverly Hills that sold for
$20.1 million that catapulted me to the next level. When
my brother and I reached a billion dollars sold, it was a
big deal because we hadn’t been in the business that
long. We had experts come up to us that have been in
the business for 25 – 30 years congratulating us. I get
www.DLISTMAGAZINE.com
to work with family, love what I do, give back, travel the
world, hiring and teaching other real estate agents – it’s
really cool.
Your clientele includes entertainers and athletes, can
you share which one has been the best to work with?
JA: I sold Kim [Kardashian] and Kanye [West] a house.
Because they are in the public eye, people might be
interested that. In my opinion she is the hardest working
woman I’ve ever met. I double ended a deal for Tyler
Perry - super nice guy. But I don’t treat anyone different.
From a $500,000 to $30 million deal, it is the same for
me because I’m learning from other successful people.
Since you will be hosting the Seattle Design Awards
and you were a kicker on Syracuse University’s football
team, what is your view on the Seattle Seahawks?
JA: Well more importantly I was born and raised in
Boston so that kind of answers that question. I went
to the Super Bowl and was only ten rows up. It was an
amazing game; best I’ve seen in my entire life. At the
end of the day it all comes down to one thing and the
coin landed on us that day. But they [Seahawks] played
a great game and all respect.

AUSTINthe early
This ostentatious Texas city may seem quite a far stretch
from the mellow greenery of Seattle, however, there
is much in common between each of these cities.
Bolstering music scenes, great food and drink, and tons
of outdoor activities makes Austin more of a first-cousin
to Seattle than a distant relative. The springtime is one
of the best times to visit this unique city with moderate
weather and one of the best music festivals going on in
spring months.
TRAVEL TIPS
Travel Time:
Plane: 4 hr 15 min
Train: 3 days 22 hr
Automobile: 38 hr 29 min
Unless you absolutely love driving through some
desolate areas of the US, taking a four-hour plane
makes the most sense to get to Austin from Seattle.
If you travel during non-peak times you can typically
get a roundtrip ticket for around $400. The best times
to visit Austin are September to November or March
to May, when 70s and 80s are the anticipated daytime
temperatures. As temperatures climb into the mid- to
high 90s with high humidity, the Texan summer (June
through August) is barely tolerable for unaccustomed
visitors.
DESTINATION TIP
• When flying into Austin you will arrive at the
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. This isn't
your typical airport though; with live music and
art installations, you will quickly get the vibe for
what Austin has in store for you.
GETTING AROUND
The best way to get around Austin is by bus and light
rail. Some travelers recommend a car; however, the
expense and pains of one are enough to encourage
many travelers to use Capital Metro Transit. A bus
connects the downtown with Austin-Bergstrom
International Airport, which is located about 10
miles outside of the city and handles most American
commercial airlines.
DESTINATION TIP
• Capital Metro Transit provides bus routes
that cover the city. Additionally, Austin has
recently added a light-rail system that caters
to popular areas of downtown; however, it
only runs during rush hour (approximately
5:30 a.m to 9:30 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. to 7:45
p.m.). If you are going to be buzzing around
town, purchase a MetroPlus Day Pass ($6.00)
online. The assortment of passes and its
pricing is complicated; be sure to check the
company's website to decide on the best pass
for you.
REST
Austin offers a little bit of everything when choosing
a place to lay your head. You have the standard four
star or better hotels like The Four Seasons or The W.
However, if you want to stay somewhere a little more
"Austin" try the Austin Motel, located along the hip
strip, South Congress Avenue. Or the Heywood Hotel
in burgeoning East Austin, where restaurants and
bars sprout like wildflowers, lives this seven-room
hotel built out from a two-bedroom, one-bath '20s
Craftsman bungalow.
DESTINATION TIP
• Even in the smaller more boutique hotels,
expect to pay $150-$200 a night as Austin's
booming tourist scene is driving up prices on
all rooms until a new crop of hotels opens up
sometime in the summer of 2015.
DINE
The city is brimming with amazing food and drink
spots. Since you are in Texas you may be drawn to
look for some good ol' Texas BBQ. If so try Stiles
Switch BBQ & Brew (6610 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX)
or Franklin BBQ (900 E. 11th St., Austin, TX). The
southwest is also known for some amazing tacos. If
Mexican food is your thing check out Amaya's Taco
Village (5804 N Interstate 35, Austin, TX).
TV FAME
• If you have seen the new Bravo TV show,
Best New Restaurant, you have probably
seen the Austin hot-spot. Porter Ale House &
Gastropub. To get a little slice of TV land stop
by and make sure and order the Porter Burger.
($15) (3715 S 1st St Ste A, Austin, TX 78704)
DRINK
Long gone are the days when Austin was a town full
of college bars serving $2 well drinks. Now, there’s a
watering hole for every taste, whether you’re a wine
aficionado, cocktail snob or beer connoisseur. If you
prefer your cocktails of the more "mixology" fancy
try Midnight Cowboy (313 E. Sixth St, Austin TX).
Looking for a cold-one? Head to The Brew Exchange
(706 W. Sixth St, Austin TX). And of course if vino
is your poison make your way to Vino Vino (4119
Guadalupe St., Austin TX).
NEW KID ON THE BLOCK
• Austin has a lot of long-time favorite bars,
however some of the newer offerings are
making waves like Gatsby's. The namesake
himself would feel right at home at Sixth
Street’s newest Jazz Age–themed lounge,
with its intimate Art Deco interior, daily
performances by local jazz musicians and
a 7,000-square-foot patio. Sample house
specialty cocktails like the Grape Gatsby and
Lemon the Life during happy hour (known as
“Grog Time”) or start planning out your best
flapper outfit for the bar’s annual Roaring ’20s
party in April.
MUSIC
If Austin is the live music capital of the world, then
downtown is center stage. On any given night, you can
cross a new music legend off your bucket list, check
out the latest indie sensation or catch a talented local
upstart before word gets out. And each year SXSW lets
the world in on the action that Austinites enjoy every
night.
DESTINATION TIP
• The epitome of awesome for music lovers
is a trip to Austin's SXSW music festival, an
extravaganza of mingling with music industry
insiders, exposure to the music of up-andcoming
as well as established bands, and
watching live performances.
For more than 25 years, Austin has played host
to the 6-day festival, which brings together
thousands of attendees to hear some 2,000
musical acts performing at more than 90
venues around downtown Austin.
DRIVE CADILLAC ESCALADE
ALL HAIL THE KING
When it comes to SUV's, the Cadillac Escalade is king. Since 1999, Cadillac has owned the luxury-SUV department with its flagship truck
that has made Ludacris rap about and was the car of choice for the boys of HBO's Entourage. The Escalade is engrained in American culture
so much that you can quickly recognize one after each iteration of the classic. The all new 2015 takes cues from the past, but also carves
out a distinct niche to usher in the new era of Escalade. by JAMES ZACHODNI
INTERIOR
42
MODERN ELEGANCE
The Escalade has always had
a very distinct and masculine
look. The rear is dominated
by signature LED lighting
extending full-height, from
the fascia to the roof. The twin,
light-blade taillamps recall
Cadillac’s design heritage
while the front headlights
carry through the dramatic
new look.
CRAFTMANSHIP
It's hard to imagine the
interior of the Escalade
improving from previous
models, but the addtions
all center on the premium,
layered materials and
extensive use of cut-and-sew
live stitching – the way fine
furniture is produced.
BELLS & WHISTLES
The old-world elegance of
the wood trim and stiched
leather is contrasted nicely
with modern elegance like
a wireless phone charging
station, electric fold down
2nd and 3rd row seating, an
available Blu-Ray DVD rear
entertainment system and
a center console chill box to
keep your beverages ice cold.
KEEP IT QUIET
Escalade is also a quieter
environment, thanks to a
stronger body structure,
enhanced use of noiseattenuating
materials and
processes, including triplesealed
doors and acousticlaminate
glass and Bose® Active
Noise Cancelation technology.
Even the exterior mirrors were
carefully shaped in the wind
tunnel to reduce wind noise.
POWER
All models are offered with
2WD and 4WD drivetrains, as
well as a new 6.2L V-8 engine
that is more powerful and
more efficient than previous
models. In fact, it’s powerful
enough to enable 0 to 60
mph performance in less than
6 seconds – 5.96 seconds
for Escalade 4WD and 5.98
seconds for Escalade ESV 2WD.
THE SAFE WAY
Escalade’s new technologies
include safety features to
help protect occupants
before, during and after a
collision, such as front and
rear automatic braking, which
relies on short-range radar
technology and ultrasonic
sensors to help the driver
avoid front and rear low-speed
collisions via a progression of
alerts that extend to complete
braking, if necessary.
