To deliver vocational and study skills within the Access<br />

/ Pre-Access and Professional Studies department. To<br />

teach and facilitate the learning of all students through -<br />

managing Access / Pre-Access courses/learning<br />

programmes, student assessment, contributing to<br />

pastoral systems and curriculum development.<br />

The postholder will normally be located at the Tower<br />

Road Campus but as a term of employment may be<br />

required to work at any site from which the <strong>College</strong> is<br />

offering or providing services.<br />

Main Duties and Responsibilities<br />

1. Teach Law across a range of Access / Pre-Access pathways, and act as<br />

Course Tutor as required<br />

2. Lecture, conduct seminars and tutorials and use creative teaching and<br />

assessment methods as appropriate on Access / Pre-Access programmes<br />

3. Undertake preparation and marking in line with normal teaching duties<br />

associated with learning programmes.<br />

4. Undertake moderation and verification activities across the Access / Pre-<br />

Access programmes and participate in standardisation.<br />

5. Facilitate learning by the selection and development of materials and<br />

methods appropriate to student needs and course level.<br />

6. Provide students with feedback and guidance to support their learning and<br />

enhance their knowledge and progress within the constraints of assessment<br />

confidentiality.<br />

7. Assist the Access / Pre-Access team in the development and management of<br />

Access / Pre-Access pathways.<br />

8. Lead Access / Pre-Access programmes for which the postholder has been<br />

assigned responsibility and staff assigned to teaching duties on such<br />

programmes.<br />

9. Maintain accurate and appropriate records, registers and timetables and<br />

make these available on demand to <strong>College</strong> administration and external<br />

agencies, for example, course tracking.<br />

10. Help with marketing, enrolment and induction of students, evaluation and<br />

other administrative and promotional tasks as required by the Curriculum<br />

Team Manager to support particular courses/programmes and the work of the<br />

Department and <strong>College</strong>.<br />

11. Organise resources for effective teaching administration and assessment.<br />

12. Contribute to staff development activities within the Department and other<br />

team meetings as appropriate.<br />

13. Take an active part in all aspects of quality assurance including course review<br />

and evaluation and other statistical returns.<br />

14. Prepare assignment material and examination questions as appropriate.<br />

15. Assist with the administration and invigilation of time-constrained assessment<br />

and examinations if required.<br />

16. Mark, grade and give written or verbal assessment as required by the<br />

appropriate accreditation authority and to support student feedback and<br />

progress.<br />

17. Participate in curriculum review, innovation and change in response to<br />

<strong>College</strong> or validating body requirements.<br />

18. Develop the curriculum through leadership and co-operation in development<br />

activities for programmes to which the post holder has been assigned.<br />

19. Implement curriculum change resulting from innovation and development.<br />

20. Establish working relationships with individual students and groups to<br />

maintain awareness of problems and difficulties.<br />

21. Provide pastoral support to Access / Pre-Access students and support<br />

students in completing UCAS applications.<br />

22. Prepare and submit reports of Access / Pre-Access students to internal and<br />

external authorities about progress, attainment, personal qualities,<br />

employment potential, difficulties and discipline<br />

23. Maintain continuous Personal and Professional Development Journal or Log<br />

as appropriate.<br />

24. Act as group and personal tutor/mentor/advisor when required providing<br />

advice and guidance in academic, vocational and pastoral matters to formally<br />

assigned students.<br />

25. Plan progression and monitor destinations.<br />

26. To use and keep updated, the <strong>College</strong> VLE in relation to the subject taught.<br />

27. Promote the agreed <strong>College</strong> policies for Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities<br />

and smoking etc and any other policy which the <strong>College</strong> adopts for the<br />

welfare of employees, students and visitors, by carrying out appropriate<br />

procedures and practices.<br />

28. Share in responsibility for ensuring good standards of student behaviour and<br />

take appropriate disciplinary action when required.<br />

29. Establish, maintain and develop good working relationships with colleagues.<br />

30. Participate as required in the formal <strong>College</strong> Appraisal process.<br />

31. Respond to identified personal and professional needs by undertaking<br />

training or research as required.<br />

Have experience of teaching adults and meeting their pastoral needs<br />

Level II Literacy and Numeracy or equivalent<br />

Previous experience of working with OCNLR/NOCN Awarding Body<br />

(Awarding Body requirements)<br />

General Duties:<br />

The post holder will be required to undertake other duties as directed by the Principal<br />

(or his/her delegated representative) appropriate to the administration of the <strong>College</strong><br />

and within the abilities of the post holder.<br />

Additional evening duties will be required from time to time as discussed and agreed<br />

with the Line Manager.<br />
