Road-Stream Crossing Survey During July and August of 2001, a team of volunteers from the Friends of the Looking Glass River conducted a visual assessment along the Looking Glass River and small tributaries. The volunteers investigated 160 road-stream crossings along the Looking Glass River starting in Shiawassee County and ending at its confluence with the Grand River in the City of Portland. These survey locations are presented in Figure 3-2. The river assessment identified the bottom substrate, type of bank vegetation, surrounding land use and potential pollution sources. Water quality monitoring was not conducted during the road-stream crossing surveys, but some sites were identified as being potential problems. Sites identified as potential problems are priority areas listed in the section below. Complete results are provided in Appendix E. Each of the volunteers had previously attended a half day training session to familiarize them with the methodology.
